London to Dublin - Best airport for departure?
Flying one-way from London to Dublin in early September. It seems I have my choice of several airlines and airports. There seems to be a lot of displeasure with LHR for long walks and long waits. Is LGW better? Suggestions on both airports and airlines appreciated.

Where are you starting your journey from to get to LHR or LGW? LHR is always my 1st choice, T2 is very nice and EI fly from there, BA fly from T5, doesn't matter which airline for such a short flight.

Can't really answer in a vacuum . . . The BIGEST decider (other than fares) is where you will be starting from. East end? -- then London City; near Victoria or London Bridge -- Gatwick. South Kensington or Covent Garden -- Heathrow, etc etc etc. Different airports are more convenient from different neighborhoods.
So where will you be?

My apologies for sucking the air out of the room. We did not have our hotel reservations yet when I first posted. However, we are staying very near the South Kensington tube stop. Looking at the map it appears we could take the Underground to Heathrow, though I understand it is often congested and there are several stops along the way. We could also take the tube to Victoria Station and catch the Gatwick Express though I understand one pays quite a premium for that. As always, advice appreciated.

From South Kens either LGW or LHR would be perfectly fine. I'd go with which ever one had the best fare and/or schedule. Travel time to either airport will be about the same.
You do not need to take the Gatwick Express from Victoria. There are very frequent cheaper trains on the same route that take maybe 5 or 6 minutes longer

Just a reminder - the Thameslink is operational from London Bridge, Farringdon, St. Pancreas, City direct to Gatwick, so very handy if you are close to these stations. I live in SE London and it has made my life so much easier . Approximately 30 minutes from London Bridge to Gatwick.
