Paying for the seat of your choice

Searching for a flight, I found this offer on the Northwest Airlines: if you want a confirmed window or isle seat, they can arrange that for $15 per flight.

Is this only on NWA or all of them had picked up? Yuck!

This was instituted by NW last year as they went into bankruptcy. IMO it's the airline equivalent of a pay toilet.

One can make all the jokes but let us be honest for a second. NW charges $15 for some "choice" seats. There are still plenty of aisle and window seats on each flight that one can get assigned to, for free.

I really do not have a problem with this policy. If I wish to sit in a seat that has extra legroom, not next to the toilets I am happy to pay a bit. In the UK several airlines have been doing this for over 2 years
