Uh Oh, Continental moved me to earlier flight

Howdy! Continental cancelled a flight for me out of IAH and put me on an earlier flight that gives me 30 minutes connection time. Can this be done or should I ask for a later flight? (And can I ask for a later flight since they moved me to this one?)

I am flying into IAH from Honolulu, and historically the flight is usually on time, but I know nothing of IAH (it looks big on the map) and I hate the thought of missing a connection because Continental did not give me enough time. And I am certain my luggage won't make it.

Advice and insights are much appreciated!

If CO made the change then you can request that they put you on another flight at no cost to you.
If they scheduled a 30 minute connection then it must be "legal." IAH is a big airport but CO has done a great job with layout. There are cross cutting hallways, inter-terminal train and of course electric carts. 30 minutes does not give you time to linger but it is possible.

IAH is indeed big and I haven't been thru there in awhile. It's a CO hub so they control many gates there. Still 30 minutes is very tight.

Hopefully rkkwan will be here to assist..it's his home airport and he's quite knowledgable about your options.

Call Continental back and say the 30 minutes connection is unacceptable (which it certainly is, with or without luggage) and ask them to come up with a better itinerary (will be even better if you've already found the flights that make sense for you). They can't change your flights without giving you the option of either rejecting the itinerary altogether (and getting a refund) or giving you the choice of a new flight without charging you a change fee.

... 30 minutes gives you NO leeway if there are delays for traffic.

It is up to you. Since the HNL-IAH flight is usually on-time, you can take a chance with the earlier flight. If you're late, they'll protect you on a later flight, provided that there's room.

Or you can call and change it to whatever you want for free.
