1 nt. layover in Kuala Lampur...

Anyone know of a decent (not super expensive) hotel in Kuala Lampur near the airport (or easy to reach from the airport)? We have a 20 hour layover on our way back to L.A. from Bangkok. Thanks!

You have a choice of going downtown ( Airport Express rail fastest ) or staying around the airport, Pan Pacific is connected directly to the terminals, Concorde Inn is a budget motel style place ideal for overnight, but there is nothing of interest close to it at all, another place is the Empress, but many would say head downtown.

Okay, it sounds like it may be worth the trip into town. Where do you suggest for under $100? We could spend a little more if there is somewhere really special.

hi LA FADE AWAY

i would suggest that you stay at a hotel that has LRT accessibility, like KL Hilton or Le Meridien (they should be within your specified budget)since you have such a limited time.

i just checked the hilton website and they have a special right now for less than USD100 that includes the airport express rail tickets.

here is the website for kl hilton

http://www.hilton.com/en/hi/hotels/i...tyhocn=KULHIHI

hope that helps

Quick question... I don't see where either site mentions that the prices include rail tickets. Where do I find that?

How about a Premier King room at the Concorde Hotel. It can be had for less than 300MYR/night(+ tax) and includes breakfast and 1-way transport to/from airport.

I stayed here once and would again.

The Concorde hotel is reasonable but be careful there are two, one is in Shah Alam and is in the middle of nowhere, stayed there for a painful 3 weeks and the other is in the city next door to the Hard Rock Cafe.

If you like live entertainment, then the HRC usually have excellent cover bands from 10pm onwards. Booze is a bit expensive but they have a 2 for 1 happy hour until 9pm.

There are plenty of restaurants and bars nearby as well as KLCC which is attached to the Petronas Towers and is a large shopping and food centre

Well, I couldn't figure out how to book the hassle free promotion on their web site, so I e-mailed them and they said it is currently not available. Bummer. We'll still probably stay there, although we're debating if we want to go in town and stay at the Oriental.

LA:
I would stay at the Oriental. It's a fabulous hotel and you are next to everything. The Petrona Towers are just in front and the KLCC mall also. The hotel is really superb. I stayed there last year and got great rates at ww.sawadee.com

For Malaysia hotels it's actually www.sawadee.com/kualalumpur.
Their rate for the Mandarim is 139 USD with taxes and the most wonderful breakfast I ever had included.

I also happened to contact the KL Hilton about their "No Hassle" package, after reading this post. (We have 1 night in KL before a morning flight, and having the skytrain ticket included seemed like a good deal).
They said the offer would be available in May, at a rate of RM375++ (or about $110 including tax).

Is it worth it to stay at the Oriental for 1 night, or would it be easy to get in to see the Towers, etc from the Hilton?

kl hilton is next to kl central station, which is linked via LRT to KLCC, where the petronas twin towers are. its easy enough to get to a few shopping places KLCC and Mid valley megamall being the most popular, with malaysians anyway. If you have to leave early in the morning, KL hilton is convenient coz you can actually check in at KL sentral (2 hours ahead). the KLIA express from there to the airport is only 28 minutes

you can go up to the skybridge at the twin towers for free. just have to queue up for it.

Well, now I'm thinking about the Shangri-La too. They have a Deluxe room with breakfast for $96.26 USD plus tax. The deal Internet price at the Oriental is no longer being offered for the day I need, but I haven't checked Sawadee.com yet. I'm seriously considering the Shangri-La now, given its prime location. Then again, that train at the Hilton sounds way convenient too!
