Just today we returned from a 3 week trip to China. We don't like big tour groups so ended up doing an independent arrangment with Access China Tours for a group of 4. You can find them on the web by that name. We were very happy with all the arrangements, hotels, meals, and the guides. We did the basic first time to China tour. We often saw people from other tour groups and Uniworld and Overseas Adventure Travel (OAT)were smaller groups and people were very pleased with their travel. Also saw Ritz but those groups tended to be larger. I, like you tried to find a smaller group and did not have a lot of luck with the message boards so we took a chance with Access China Tours and were satisfied. Good luck!

To Critch,
Can you give more detailed info on your China Tour with China Access? I am planning for October and having trouble finding a company that fits all my requirements such as price and cities. Help.

Try chinahighlights.com. They are the CITS office in Guilin. I booked my trip with them this past September (Beijing-Xi'an-Guilin-Suzhou-Shanghai). I put together our own small group of 8 and it was great. Their 4 star hotels that we were booked on were also very nice.
