Firstly
http://www.smh.com.au/news/World/Wei...700677359.html
go to this site and see what has been going on for months.
However aside from that, I live in the Austral/Asian region and there are far more interesting and cleaner destinations than Bali. As a destination in this area it would rate in the low 10% of the iteresting places to see.
Getting back to the original web-site that I have put here. There is enough circumstancial evidence to show that this girl should not and could not be found guilty. There has been too many stuff-ups by the Indonesian Police and then there have been rumours of corruption as well. The way this thing has been conducted is a farce and it could happen to anyone who has not locked their entire luggage securely. The psychological damage this must be doing to Shapelle and to her family is beyond belief.
Please do not think that I have any sympathy with drug trafficers - no I do not and I could not care what happens to the 9 who have been caught smuggling heroin out of the country.
Any country who allows the leader of the sect that carried out the bombing of 200 + people in Bali to get off with 13 months cushy jail and then inflicts such barbaric, corrupt and outrageous conduct on someone who was probably at the wrong place at the wrong time is to be given the widest berth possible. The fact that the people of our country have given billions in aid to this country means nothing! Until and unless Indonesia comes screaming into the 21 Century then I trust that any normal person will not give one cent to that country.
Holiday there? - you have to be joking!

This is one of the questions that the original poster asked :I am a 23 year old girl and I will be travelling by myself, so safety is a bit of a concern................. You don't think that dodgy legal issues are a safety issue for some woman travelling alone in a Moslem country.
Why is my answer political? I would say more to the point that my answer is moral not political or even humanist if you like, but not political. If by political you mean that I am slating the politics of Indonesia then yes I agree with you that that is political, if you are saying that I am agreeing with people with professional qualifications in comparison to corrupt Government Officers of a corrupt country then I guess then that is political. Every person who is thinking about travel to Indonesia should read the story of Shapelle Corby first especially if they are female and on their own.
Yes this is a travel site but one very important issue for women travelling alone is safety and therefore NOTHING should be brushed under the carpet. FACT Indonesia is a Moslem country, FACT women are a second class citizen in those countries, FACT the trial of the Bali Bombers is/was a joke FACT there is corruption in the highest of ranks in Indonesia FACT those people who have bothered reading the trial of Shapelle Corby will form the opinion of the rest of us that Indonesia can go to hell and hopefully no further money will be given to that country whatever happens in the future.
