Is anyone aware if the discovery pass will cover all routes Bangkok air flies (just at various prices)? Specifically, I found a direct flight from Chiang Mai to Siem Reap (on Bangkok Airways website) that only flies (one-way) on Thursdays and Saturdays. It appears that this may be a new route and therefore not updated on the discovery pass route map. Ideally, we could plan the three legs as BKK-CM, CM-REP, REP-BKK. Any suggestions?

I would call them at 1 866 395 4497
to get an official answer.
That's a nice new route!

some legs are excluded, such as this one. read the exclusions at the bottom of the page there in red. Siem Reap to Phuket is also excluded. Those count as two legs.

I just booked the Discovery Pass for my husband and I. For $372 USD we got reservations for BKK - Siem Reap. Siem Reap - Krabi (via BKK). Krabi - BKK. I was psyched to find out that they started flying to Krabi - which makes it much easier for us to get to Phi Phi. Still a bit expensive, especially considering that we just plunked down nearly $3000 to fly to Thailand, but it's really less than $100 per leg of the journey so not so bad.

Does anyone know what the baggage allowance is for Thai Air ?? We have domestic flights from BKK & Bali & BKK to CM.
When we fly next week from SFO to BKK we are allowed 70 lbs. My husband is panicking. We may throw in a duffle bag to lighten the load or check something at the airport-Thanks so much Chris

I think it's 20 kilo per person for domestic. 30 kilo international unless going to US or Canada which doesn't apply.

About the luggage- it is 20 kilos per person, unless you sign up for their frequent flier program at which point you get another 10 kilos as a perk. I did extensive checking into this because we had planned to take our dive equipment and wanted to make sure we wouldn't have to pay a lot for overweighted bags!

I just booked travel in Thailand and Cambodia using the Bangkok Air Discovey Pass Went thru their reservations dept (in India). Even tho I live in Chicago where Bangkok Air has an office which I visited, I was still advised to book directly thru the reservations department. I spoke with them numerous times, they e-mailed the itineries and eventually I had e-tickets issued. The "catch" about using a credit card is a 5% "surcharge".

It's not a catch. Credit cards charge businesses at least 2-3% when you use a credit card to buy an item. They're trying to recoup the money and also make a bit on the convenience for you. You can of course send a money order instead and avoid this fee. I did.

I was looking at the flight from Siem Reap to Phuket and it looked like there was a plane change in BKK. Is that right???

From what I could see, the Siem Reap-BKK flight was on a MD 90 aircraft and the BKK-Phuket was on an Airbus. Have to admit - don't know anything about the MD planes. Are these like the little planes you take hopping around Tanzania for safaris - little 12-16 passenger planes?

This flight is not included in the pass. It would have to be bought as two separate legs if you're using the pass. Siem Reap to BKK is on Siem Reap Airways partner. BKK to Phuket is Bangkok Airways planes, which are not tiny. It's an established reliable airline - not a discount airline either.

Siem Reap to Phuket does change in Bangkok. Siem Reap to Bangkok, when we flew it in August, was on a Bangkok Airways Airbus. The direct flight from Siem Reap to Phuket is on an M90 to BKK and a 717 to Phuket departing REP at 9:50. They also have ATR72 (smallish) and Airbus 320 (what we took on the 9:50 flight in August).

For the Discovery Airpass, there have been some misunderstanding among customers and Bangkok Airways reps. Some have reported getting the REP - HKT flight as one international coupon, which is a fantastic deal...there is one flight per day that is direct with a change in Bangkok. Once, I called and Bangkok Airways rep told me it would be two coupons. In summer I called when we were considering the pass, and I was told it would be one international coupon.

You can also see right on the booking pages of Bangkok Air's website if your flight is operated by Bangkok Air or Siem Reap Airways...Bangkok Air operated flights are coded with PG and Siem Reap Airways flights are coded with FT.

In September, we booked Siem Reap to Phuket as one international coupon on the Discovery Pass (in addition to other segments). We travel in November. We booked our Discovery Pass through the Auckland branch of Bangkok Airways as we're living in New Zealand. We paid via bank transfer and received paper "tickets" which are more like vouchers. We were hoping for e-tickets but were told we couldn't get those.

Here is what my pricing came out to for my trip 2 weeks ago with Bangkok Airways For
Bangkok-Siem Reap-Phuket-Bangkok:

1 PG 905V 08OCT M BKK REP 1110 1225
2 PG 924V 11OCT Q REP HKT 0950 1305
3 PG 278V 16OCT T HKT BKK 1940 2100

I paid 308 USD incl taxes. The flight Siem Reap (REP) to Phuket (HKT) is flown using an Airbus. Nice plane, plenty space, fairly new and awesome service. It has a stopover in BKK (Suvarnabhumi Airport) but all you do is get off the plane, then the agents take you through Immigration and bring you then to the gate where you reboard the plane). It was a really easy and str8 forward process. However, you luggage gets checked through to Phuket, where you have to pick up your luggage from the INTERNATIONAL baggage belt! I did not know and was standing at the domestic one like most folks on the plane, but they did not begin the trip/leg until BKK, therefore their luggage would come out on the Domestic belt...
