I've stayed at the Royal twice--this past February and two years ago. I really like it's location, 24-hour cafe, great breakfast, on-site massage, pool, and pretty nice staff. The first time I stayed there, we got rooms in the old section. This last time I was in the newer section. Definitely try for the older, main section. Both times I booked it on-line and had no problems.

I recommend the Regency Park Hotel. It's a 5 min walk from the sky train. Location is key in Bangkok, as the traffic is so bad for most of the day, it takes hours to go anywhere by taxi. ONly 2-3 stops from Siam Square. It's a cheap hotel, decent sized rooms, renovated in the last two years or so, breakfast included. I just stayed there in July. It's about $50 USD per night if you book on asia-hotels.com. I don't work for them, but they are usually one of the cheapest websites.

As an expatriate in Bkk, l' d recommend you to Royal Hotel on Rachadumnern Rd ,close to sa-nam-luang, and Wat Pra Kaew...as it located in the heart of sightseeing sport..vientai, on the other hands, pritty old hotel and lower class than royal...you will love it..

We really enjoyed the Royal River Hotel and we will be returning next month. It is a full service hotel with a great breakfast buffet and dinner on the terrace is very nice, too. There are several dining and lounge options within the hotel. The staff is friendly and helpful; the rooms are very nice. We give it high marks and it's a great value.
