Boutique/Unique Lodging in Bangkok?

Folks,

Looking for a unique lodging experience in BGK for late August. Looking for something a bit different than the conventional luxury hotel, if it exists. Comfort and coziness ideal along with no mosquitos and lizards running about Any recommendations?

I did a search before posting and saw a thread on OBI (Old Bangkok Inn) but the link the thread provided kept giving me error msgs. And, since the last post on OBI was back about a year ago wondering if OBI is still in business.

Any other recommendations appreciated. TIA.

We stayed at the Arun Residence in the Arun Suite - right on the river with a stunning view of Wat Arun.

www.arunresidence.com

It's only 5 rooms - the restaurant is terrific too.

Hmmm... There have been a number of recent reports on the OBI, so perhaps the search function is not working as it should. Also search for reports on the Arun Residence, and there is another place called something like the Chakrabongse Villas, Ibrik by the River, and the Eugenia might interest you.

(Ah, Elizabeth, I though you might answer - I was looking for names of places while you replied)

I stayed at OBI and I posted a thread about my trip recently...its a pretty thorough review and its under "HoodLims Thailand Honeymoon Report" maybe a couple of pages back. I loved it there!

I really enjoyed the Aurum The River Place, on the river near Wat Po.

Although I didn't stay at the Arun Residence I did have dinner there one night earlier this year. It is a lovely setting in a good location. Very different.

Thx all for ur prompt and informative replies. I have already sent off requests to several of the recommendations provided here. Got a positive reply back for The Thai Villa and waiting for Arun Residence. I will try Ibrik this PM.

Thx again. Happy travels...

How about the Davis? Recommended to us by Thai friends.

The Davis isn't really in the same category as these small hotels, it's larger, more international.

If you do a search here on any of the places listed so far, you'll not only find info on these but also the names of more such places. Off the top of my head another that comes to mind is Ibrik in the CIty, which I didn't list in my earlier post.

Another vote for the Arun. We stayed in the Arun Suite following Elizabeth's recommendation and we really enjoyed it. Lying on the day bed on our private balcony watching the river traffic was fantastic. Tong the manager was more than happy to fulfil any requests we made. By the way we booked the Dream Package and thought it was good value.
