Citadines Xi'an Central hotel

Has anyone stayed at the Citadines Xi'an Central hotel at 36 Shuhashi Rd. in Xi'an in the past who may wish to comment on this hotel....good or bad?

Thanks!

Our family of six adults stayed at the Citadines in Xi'an in mid-October of 2009. The location and rates were good but the hotel itself was worn and very much early Ikea. We were moved from our first room when we complained of a pervasive sewage smell. The second room was acceptable. We had booked deluxe doubles. The sheer curtains were dingy but I imagine it is very difficult keeping them clean due to the heavy pollution in Xi'an. I'm not sure I would stay there again but we did enjoy walking around the neighborhood and the front desk staff were helpful. The attached restaurant was good and we also liked the Star Ferry restaurant about three blocks away. The old city walls were within walking distance.

We stayed there in October. The location was excellent--it is a few blocks from where the airport shuttle lets you off (in front of the Melody Hotel). The room was quiet, very clean and had a small kitchenette. Service was friendly--everyone was smiling and helpful. One breakfast (Chinese and Western style) was included with the double room rental each day--a bit unfortunate as there were 2 of us, but I guess that makes breakfast half price. We would definitely stay there again.

Hi Lvl,
Did you by chance have the double/1 bedroom? It says it comes with a sofa bed...was this the case? Thanks for the tip on how to get there from the airport. Did you go see the warriors, and if how did you get there? We have 2 1/2 days, so besided the wall bike ride, any other sights you might suggest we not miss?

We had a double room with a small kitchenette--as you walk into the room, on the left was a counter with sink, 2 burner stove and small fridge underneath. The room only had the bed and a chair/table, no sofa bed.

The hotel was very conveniently located in the center of the walled city. When you walk out and head for the main road a few blocks away, you can see the Drum (or Bell) tower across the street, You can get to the other side by the underground passage. On the other side is the Muslim Quarter and night market--definitely worth visiting. There is a quiet Mosque Temple that is worth going into (although they were renovating it when we were there).

Also visit the Shanxi history museum--fabulous museum (take a taxi). And about 2 blocks walk to the left of the entrance to the Museum is the Great Goose Pagoda, worth climbing for the views.

YEs we saw the Warriors. Take a taxi to the train station and get bus #306--found out front to the right of the train station entrance (facing the station). It is cheap and painless--about an hour bus ride.

I also recommend renting a bike and riding the city wall. Access the wall from the south gate (warning--crossing the round-about to get to the wall is a challenge!) and rent bikes on top of the wall. We went later in the day and saw the sun setting as we finished our ride--spectacular-a highlight of our trip! You can easily walk back to the hotel from there.

Thanks LvL....you have put my itinerary together for Xi'an quite nicely!! It sounds like the hotel is located just perfect for all the major site.Seemslike we can do all of this on our own and should be fairly easy & fun.
