Do I need to worry about politics in Bali

The past few months I've heard a lot of news about political strife in Indonesia mainly with religious militants. Does this turmoil extend to Bali? Need I be concerned?

Chris Lee,
I was in Bali a year ago October when there was the big political unrest with Wahid and Mikawati spelling? although there was a lot of trouble in Jakarta Bali was civil and being an American the last thing they want is bad publicity due to tourism. I and my wife always felt very safe in Bali. The people are gentle souls for the most! go enjoy and have fun there is always a lot of hype by people that have never even been there.

Nope! We just got back from our vacation mid last month and glad to say that it was fantastic and safe....consider this - it is a hindu island. GO AND ENJOY YOURSELF. You will fall in love with Bali!

Bali is quite different from Java and the other islands. The main trouble spots tend to be the Muslim islands - I have been 3 times and never had a problem. Lombok (the next island along) has had problems recently.
