English Speaking Guide for Angkor Wat
Good Morning!
I am traveling with my 2 girls and would like to have a Tuk Tuk and an English speaking guide for the day to visit Angkor Wat and other area temples.
Does anyone have any recommendations of good guides. I was told about 15 KHR for a Tuk Tuk and about 40 for the guide. I am willing to pay more for an excellent guide as we will only be there for one day. Want to get to see sunrise if possible.
Was told we could do this thru the hotel we are staying at the Khmer Mansion.

I recommend getting a guide through your hotel for two reasons:
1. The Siem Reap guides are all strictly licensed, with uniforms and the required education. For example, my guide, hired via my hotel, majored in "Tourism" in college, and had an extensive knowledge of temple history. So it is unlikely that you will encounter a lousy guide from your hotel.
2. If you hire a guide directly, there remains the distinct possibility that he will cancel on you. That happened to my son when he arranged to hire a famous guide for the temples. The guide had a chance for another booking for several days with a large group, and he cancelled at the last minute.
That being said, I am sure you will enjoy your experience. I do recommend that you rent a car rather than a tuk tuk. The tuk tuks are really small, and your daughters are going to feel uncomfortable sitting so close to the guide (think knees touching). With a car, the driver can sit in the front seat, and you and the girls can sit in the back.
I hired my guide for two days, and one day we saw the sunrise, and the next day we saw the sunset. I tried to get him to do both the sunrise and sunset on both days, but he thought it was too much. My son got a tuk tuk driver to take him to see the sunrise, and then he met his guide after breakfast, and saw the sunset that evening. Just ask for what you want, and see how the hotel can make it work.
