Hiiragiya Bekkan

I heard good review on Hiiragiya Ryokan, but it's over our budget. So we're considering Hiiragiya Bekkan instead. Have anyone stayed at Hiiragiya Annex (Bekkan) - newer Ryokan before? How's the room, service, and food? Is it worth it or should I stay elsewhere? Thanks!

I am in the same situation where I have a reservation at Hiiragiya Bekkan but am considering changing to Hiiragiya ryokan if drastically different.

Please advise.

I've only stay at the Ryokan and not the Bekkan. Did enjoy my stay there tremendously. The dinner each night as well as the breakfast was something that I'll never forget - they were excellent.

The atmosphere ofthe 4 - 500 years old ryokan is something that really captivated my family and I. I don't think you'll have that experience in the Bekkan and if you only plan to do this a few time in your life you should go for the Ryokan.

I have also looked into main building vs the annex. About the only difference between the two, aside from the history and significant difference in price, was that in the description of the annex, it mentioned having "3 family baths" used per room. From that, I suspected that perhaps unlike the main building, the annex rooms did't have bath tubs in each room. However, this was merely my guess. I ended up staying in the main building but didn't ask the maid what really was the difference between the two.
