Honeymoon ideas/plans for Aug or September??

Hi Everyone,

This is my first time posting on this site. I have found it helpful so far just reading through the various forums, so thought I would see if anyone could help me and my H2B in deciding where would be good for our honeymoon. We are actually getting married in April next year but we are thinking we might not go on honeymoon until August or Sept instead.

We have been thinking of Asia, for our honeymoon and more specifically Thailand. It is more than likely that we will fly into Bangkok if we do end up choosing Thailand for sure. So we were thinking it would be a good idea to stay there for a few days at first (maybe three days, so four nights). We were thinking maybe the Shangri la hotel.

After Bangkok though we are not really sure what to do. We were thinking maybe three or four days each in two other places in Thailand, although we don't know which. Seen as we're going to be in Bangkok which is a city for a few days, we thought then we might spend a few days at a beach area (again we don't know which would be best) and we are also interested in maybe visiting an elephant camp or something like that.

Another thing is whether - we are unsure of whether it is even a good idea to go to Thailand at all during those month due to weather....does anyone know if this is a bad time to go??

If anyone could help at all, we would really appreciate it!! Thanks in advance!!

For a beach, August will be better than September. You'll want to avoid the Adaman Sea side (Phuket, Krabi, etc) and opt for Koh Samui. Hua Hin also has good weather in August, but the beaches, while nice, aren't as spectacular as those on Koh Samui.

Yes, spend some time in Bangkok -so much to do and see.

If you are interested in elephants, go to either Chiang Mai or Chiang Rai. The Anantara at the Golden Triangle is one option (you fly into Chiang Rai) and they have a small division of the Thai Elephant Conservation Center on the grounds. If you go to Chiang Mai, opt for the Thai Elephant Conservation Center at Lamphang for a day trip to see the elephants.

For weather info, look at www.weatherbase.com

Also, get yourself a good guidebook. We can offer suggestions, but you'll need to do some research to see what is right for you.

definately do not go in september and the earlier in august that you go the better.... it rains a lot in september in thailand...

the sh-la is a very nice hotel on the river... many of us always suggest riverside hotels... the peninsula is fabulous for a honeymoon as well... the royal orchid sheraton is nice as well and also on the river... i like 5 days for a starter in bangkok...

3 days in chiang mai or chiang rai is good for the elephants. CM being a sprawling city but CR is a country city. the anantara is fabulous.

you might look at the hyatt in hua hin for a few beach days... its a 3 hour ride from bkk.

the sheraton krabi is lovely but you would need to fly there...also the jw marriott at either phuket or better still the one at khao lak are both fab hotel sites---no need to ever leave either and both have fab pools and beach areas.

tons of good food in bkk from every cuisine.

Thanks so much for your replies, I am going to do some research into both Kph samui and Chang Rai / Chang Mai and then see how we get on from there. Maybe we should be thinking more aug thatn Sept then in that case with the weather etc.

We are still only researching though and have not fully decided on Thailand. It just seems to be the one that keeps popping up in our honeymoon discussions. I am doing most of the research, so I am going to compile some info about the different places and let the H2B have a look so he can help decide.
