Hi Syl,
Yes it was Minimal Lounge Hotel where I stayed. Since I initially had some issues with the place, which they extremely graciously dealt with, I had not wanted to mention it. I did not find it to be in a difficult or out of the way location, never had any problems finding my way back
What I have discovered on this trip is that every place hits people differently. What one person loves is not to someone else's liking at all. I genuinely liked Lijiang, but as I wrote I wandered around in the mornings until around 2 pm when there were no or extremely few tourists around.
The Mu mansion I did in the afternoon, there were maybe 10 visitors max. excluding the Naxi women.

No I am sorry but I didn't check out any of the other hotels.
I can certainly recommend Minimal Lounge Hotel where I stayed with the caveats that were in my report.
Now when I think back it was probably one of the best locations, because you were away from the tourist routes. You enter through the South gate which is not one of the main gates.
They were really lovely, and I think are trying very hard to make this a very good place to stay at. All my concerns were addressed and very promptly dealt with. That is a rather uncommon occurrence in my experience.
Before I left I had a long conversation with the one owner who speaks excellent English and he seemed to listen.
Hope you enjoy Lijiang as much as I did
