Really my points are....Day trips to Phi Phi are generally a let down.
Tonsai Bay is generally a let down....unless you are a young thing looking to party.
The popular beauty spots ie. Maya Bay, Bamboo Island, Viking Cave etc. etc. will be a let down if you visit at the wrong time. We have often had Maya Bay all to ourselves....magical!!!
Personally, I wouldn't stay in Tonsai...even for free....but then, I know exactly what we want. Paradise beaches, fabulous off-beach snorkeling, and very laid back quality accommodation. It's all there on the east coast.
T.C., no offence intended, please don't take one. I just so often feel quite frustrated when I read posts describing a completely different Phi Phi to the one I know so well.

No offense taken -- and I am breathing quite well. The point is that if even a seasoned traveler, doing massive homework can still end up in the wrong place at the wrong time, it would be very easy for the orginal poster to end up in a disappointing situation that took massive effort to achieve.

After reading everyone's opinion, please tell me if we should arrange a trip out to Maya Bay very early in the moring? We're not interested in snorkeling....we just want to see "The Beach Location". Since we only have a limited time in Phi Phi, we want to spend some time at the beach where the Holiday Inn is located.

Absolutely--the earlier, the better. You can either arrange transport there via the hotel, or via (most likely for cheaper) negotiated longtail boat at the Sea Gypsy Village.
The earlier you are there, the less tourists. It's really a beautiful place...but becomes less so as the tour boats arrive later in the morning (around 10 or 11 AM.)

Yes, that's the trick. Typically we leave Holiday Inn at around 7.00am, arriving at Maya Bay around 7.30-7.45.
Chat to the sea gypsies (around Jasmins), and arrange everything the day before.
The Sunset Satay Bar up the hill is a great place for a pre-dinner drink. Just quietly watching the sun going down. Don't miss it!!!
Massage with the sound of the sea in the background....another don't miss...but you must book this with reception.
An early morning trip to Bamboo Island will live with you forever. So long as it's not high tide, you can walk all round the island. Even at high tide the walk is possible but you will need to swim for some very short distances. Absolutely unforgettable!
Won't ramble any more....but one little warning.......this place is highly addictive!!!!

Wow, you really have be excited about going now. I'm thinking of cutting out our 3 nights in Singapore and adding it to our stay in Phuket and Phi Phi. Having more time at these two places may be a better choice since it will give us more time to enjoy the islands and less time in the airports!

Hi,
I am spending 2 weeks in Thailand the beginning of Aug. 2 days Bangkok, 4 days chaing mai and 6 down in Krabi. I also would like to stay on Phi Phi but can't decide if it is worth it. I will be catching a ferry from Krabi and would like to stay 2-3 nights. The reviews are not good and I could use some help. It seems that Holiday Inn has happier guests then Zevola or Phi Phi Island Beach Resort. Also I do want to be able to go for a drink outside my hotel. Any suggestions. Should I just do a day trip and head somewhere else for a few days cause Im thinking 6 nights in Krabi is too long. Thanks
