quick question!!

we just chngd our flight to reach BKK one day earlier... so we have an extra day in Thailand!!

our question is... aside from Samui, we are currently scheduled for 5 nights BKK and 4 nights CM...
so - should we apply the extra night to BKK or CM???

we arent that much into temple hopping, but will most likely love the markets, the adventure aspects and the massages!

please advise soonest so we can change our domestic flights!!!

is an extra day in CM more worthwhile?

Julia

If it were me (and it isn't) I'd add the day to Bangkok. There is so much to do and see and experience in Bangkok.

I would choose Bangkok. We spent 8 days in Bangkok last February and still did not accomplish everything we wanted to accomplish. It was our 2nd trip to Thailand and we spent very little time temple-hopping.

1. Important temples: Grand Palace, Wat Po, Wat Arun, Marble Temple

2. Other sites: Jim Thompson House, Vimanmek (Teak) Palace, Suan Packard Palace, National Museum, Flower Market

3. Klong Tour - hire a boat (preferably in the afternoon) to take you among the klongs (canals) of Thonburi for 2 hours

4. Prasart Museum - allow an entire morning for this as its about 45 minutes outside of central Bangkok. The tour takes a couple of hours.

5. Cooking class - Bai Pai is one but there are several others

6. Shopping - the possibilities are unlimited - tell us what you like and we'll tell you where to go. Check out Siam Paragon - there's an aquarium there where you can spend an hour or two. Narai Phand has excellent one-stop
shopping for handicrafts. Suan Lum night market is worth some time - it gets going around 7 PM.

7. Restaurants - again unlimited possibilities - some of our favorites are Tongue Thai (Thai), Biscotti (Italian) Bed Supper Club (eclectic) and China House (may be closed when you are there but fantastic Peking Duck for two)

There are fabulous temples. At a minimum, you will want to visit Grand Palace/Emerald Buddha/Wat Po. I'd also add in Wat Arun and an early morning trip to Wat Ben (the Marble Temple) to watch people making merit. I also love visiting the Erawan Shrine.

I also think the Jim Thompson House is a must-see. There are other places, such as the Suan Paakard Palace, the V-mark Palace, the Prasart Museum depending on your interests.

Bangkok has remarkable shopping, fabulous restaurants, and wonderful spas. The hotels in Bangkok are lovely, much nicer than those in CM.

I've been to Bangkok 20+ times, and I find I never have enough time to do all the things I want to do.

you have no choice....the fodors experts have spoken: its bkk and i agree...we have you captive....we have called your agent and told them so you need do nothing more....great service??

hahha

you will find plenty to do in bkk...remember it is very humid and going is slow so you will not accomplish nearly as much as you think you can so the extra day will be fantastic....may i suggest that you add it on at the end if possible...but upfront is ok too to help with the jet lague

what can i say - rhk - you're right - BKK has been outnumbered!!!
this means we will have an extra day in BKK at begining of our stay...

itinerary:
BKK - 3 nights - millenium hilton
CM - 4 nights - Yang Come Village
KS - 6 nights - Ban Laem Sai + Muang Samui
BKK - extra 3 nights - hilton

cant wait! we just got all our painful pre-trip shots!

i promise to post! leaving on the 27th... few days after our wedding! My Fiance's army unit had been drafted bec. of the Mid-East crisis... thank god the cease fire came into effect today and we hope to have peace and stability - and my fiance back home!!!

BKK for sure. And you can always take a day tour to Ayutthaya or Sukhothai if you ever feel "bored" in town.
