Side trips outside of Tbilisi
I will be going to the Republic of Georgia with a friend for eight days. We are both older adults. We enjoy learning about culture, history and seeing beautiful sights. We do enjoy walking and light to medium hiking. We will be spending most of our nights in Tbilisi and taking side trips with a tour guide or taking public transportation. I was thinking that we might spend one night in a town that has a more distant location, because of the hours it would take to drive in a car.
I was thinking of us taking a tour to either the 1) Kazbegi (Stepantsminda) -Juta/Djuta area and spending one night
OR
The 2) Vardzia-Akhaltsikhe area and spending one night. I have gone to the caves in Cappadocia, Turkey. Are these caves very similar?
Which of these areas do you think we should visit for a night? Do you have other recommendations or should we skip these two sights? We will be spending time in Tbilisi getting to know the city and taking other nearby daytime trips.
Do you have suggestions on interesting places to visit in Tbilisi? Can you tell me about entertainment for music or dance?
Thank you,
Merle

I did not get to Kazbegi and wish I had. I did go to Vardzia and it is not comparable to Cappadocia. You might also consider a trip to the wine region. My visit was ten years ago, but you might still find my report of us. Start here (links at the top of the page): https://mytimetotravel.wordpress.com...ttered-batumi/

Prometheus Cave
You did not have a pleasant experience. I think I will cross this off my list. I had read about the Prometheus Cave (Kumistavi Cave) with stalactites. Did you go there? Is it in your journal?
