What to wear Tokyo-Kyoto-Osaka Christmas Season

i am planning a trip to Tokyo Kyoto and Osaka this Christmas Season (DEC 24- DEC 31)

What clothing should I bring?

I know it doesnt snow, but how is the weather?

i research clothing options in the web, but its mostly very diverse. Some wearing heavy coats while some are just wearing warm jackets.

Do I need to bring thermals? or layering is just fine?

I have been to Hokkaido last year during Fall (October) and the weather is bearable especially during morning.

Also any other information tips especially on clothing and personal essentials will be greatly appreciated... thanks

Hope you can help me

For just about anything you might want to know about Japan, including typical weather patterns, consult japan-guide:
http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2273.html

Even in places that do occasionally get snow, I prefer to use layers, and I always take some silk underthings -- long johns, Tnecks, etc. -- because they are extremely lightweight and provide breathable warmth. JMO.

Enjoy!

Was in Tokyo/Kyoto/Osaka back in Dec 09/Jan 10. Definitely need layers and windproof jacket, esp at night. Thermals may be a bit over the top but if you do feel the cold, it doe not hurt to take them.

Huh?

You can layer from the closest-to-corpus level with polyester or silk undies and stay warm. Are you making a distinction without a difference?
