Where to go?
Hi,
I will be spending time in Mongolia, China and Myanmar, and have an extra 2-3 weeks to fill at the end. I have been to Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Thailand already and am wondering where you would recommend I spend my extra time. My extra time is the last few weeks of August.

How much time do you have scheduled in Myanmar? I'd try to spend as much time as possible there so you can explore some less-visited places. The limiting factor is ht visa, which is good for just 28 days.
Are there places in VN, Cambodia, Laos or Thailand that you'd like to return to?

Hi kathie,
I am spending a good deal of time in Myanmar. I've read your blogs and am looking forward to it. We are considering northern Vietnam, but want to consider other places too. I know you've been to Nepal. I'd really like to go there and know that August is not recommended, but I have no time at any other time of the year. Would you go anyways?

Have you been to Yunnan Province in China or will you this trip? If, not, I recommend it, both north and south, Jinghong and environs in Xishuangbanna region, near the Burma border and Mekong River. I spent a very happy month in Yunnan several years ago and would happily return.
Depending on your route, there may be boats going down the river from Jinghong to Chiang Khong in Northern Thailand. Then if you'd like to continue downriver, other boats are available from there on south into Laos. Traveling on the river is a very nice way to spend some leisurely time.

Thanks that sounds lovely but I have China covered and have already done Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam. I'm wondering if people have other suggestions for that time of year for 2-3 weeks.

It is still the monsoon season in Myanmar so Yangon and the South will be very damp and the Rakhine (Ngapali and Mrauk U) is out.
Central Myanmar-Bagan and Mandalay should be OK and water levels are high so you could look at local boats up to Bhamo or up the Chindwin

Take a look at al of the weather info on Nepal www.weatherbase.com is the site I use. Only you can decide if it is worth it to you. We very much enjoyed the Kathmandu Valley.
Have you been anywhere in Malaysia? Sabah and Sarawak on Malaysian Borneo are fascinating destinations. For a short trip to Malaysia, we love Penang.
And a bit farther... How about Indonesia? I loved my trips to Java, and everyone it seems, loves Bali.
