Winter Olympics - Television Coverage in Bangkok?
Does anyone know if there is any television coverage (live, tape or otherwise) of the Olympics from Turin? My wife was hoping to catch some of the figure skating events when we are there. We leave on Thursday

Because when we get back the Olympics will be but a distant memory - always better to see it in real or close to real time - also, we would have to record hours and hours of coverage just to get to the "good stuff".

The schedule of events can be found at http://www.torino2006.org Because Bangkok is currently 7 hours ahead of Turin, you will find that many of the events which take place in the evening in Turin, like virtually all the skating finals and semi-finals, would be live in Bangkok in the middle of the might so you probably won't want to, or won't be able to, watch them live. Whether they will shown later on TV taped is kind of questionable, as Thailand does not have many winter athletes. ESPN may of course be showing it, check the TV listings in the Bangkok Post, the local English-daily newspaper, your hotel should have it, or it is widely available at newsstands.
You might be able to watch some of it taped or live on-line, albeit this might be expensive if you have to pay for on-line time. Take a look at the Turin website above. Your hotel may offer on-line in your room, in their business centre, or go to cybercafes.com for a list of cybercafés by country and city.
Some other suggestions would be to go to the Khao San Road area where there are lots of casual restaurants and bars and lots of backpackers hanging out and the restaurants may be showing the games. Also, get a copy of Nancy Chandler's Map of Bangkok (which you want anyway) and check her listings for "expat hangouts", these are bars where expatriates tend to go and they may be showing the games for their regular patrons. You can buy the map in most hotel bookshops, or go to Nancychandler.net

Sorry to dissapoint, but the chances of catching the winter games in Bangkok are less than slim. Local TV or Cable are not showing any. I also checked in Bars which have the South African Sattelite (The londoner, The office Bar) and they are not scheduling any. I guess sports updates by CNN or internet, are your only options to follow up.

craig, if you had sling box, you could watch it in bangkok, just like you would at home. you can buy it at compusa and other pc stores for about $250, and no monthly/annual fee.
