Ana Harbour Grand anyone??

At the beginning of May we sill be stopping off at Sydney for four nights before going on to Fiji. We really fancied the Ana Harbour Grand in a room overlooking harbour/Opera house but cant see that anyone has mentioned it on this site. Can anyone help? Is it nice or is there nicer? Thanks

I stayed at the ANA for 10 nights over the holidays. I LOVED it. Lovely decor, very large rooms, friendly staff, fabulous views, etc.. Other than the ANA, I have stayed at Quay West Suites, Renaissance, Westin, Harbour Rocks Hotel, and Park Hyatt in Sydney. Of those, the only place I would stay again is the Park Hyatt, which I also loved. I found the ANA a better value than the Park Hyatt, though, so the ANA is where I will be staying from now on. If you have any specific questions about the ANA, ask away.

Views are great and it is a nice enough hotel. If views are everything, go for it. I chose Westin Hotel after personally checking out a number of hotels (i.e. not just web site search)but main focus for me was room quality, for which I think the Westin is really outstanding. Web site shows the rooms well enough but a bit small. You will tend to pay more for ANA because of the view. Other view hotels are Quay Grand, and Hyatt, some rooms for 4 Seasons and Intercon, but ANA will give you a more expansive view because of height above harbour.(Downside is that is is perhaps not as convenient for walking to other attractions as some of the others). Of course, you could always go up to their bar for views and stay elsewhere. Tripadvisor is another web site for hotel reviews which cover ANA.

I've stayed at the ANA several times and I really like it. The views are wonderful and the rooms are larger than average. I don't think you will be dissapointed. I have also stayed at the Four Seasons & the Interconti and the ANA is my favourite.

As to nicer - I have always presumed the Hyatt must be nicer given how much more expensive it is. Personally I have been unable to justity the additional cost to stay there given the high standard at the ANA.

Thank you Nick,Missy and Jacqui it looks like it will be the Ana. We really want the view and hopefully the room will be good as we have got quite a good deal where we have been upgraded to a deluxe harbour view corner suite. Thanks again for your help. P.s Anyone know any good restaurants? Mitch

Had my wedding reception at Catalina Rose Bay - could not praise them enough for food quality and service. Located right on water with long and wide balcony overlooking the sea planes. From service perspective - not Aqua over North Sydney!
there are generally good review information on restaurants on the net - get Sydney Morning Herald reviews and so on - names like Aria (great location overlooking Opera House), Quay, Rockpool come up. Also 41 - (41st floor of one of the main office (?) buildings - fantastic views from that level of course - but then you will ave them every day, so go somewhere lower!
