Cairns

Let’s see

My next trip will began 4 of October going to Australia, will stop in Tokyo/Sydney/Ayers/Cairns/Darwin/Melbourne/Singapur

My doubts are in Cairns, will be from 16 of Oct. (17:50 arriving) till 21 of Oct (going to Darwin at 19:30)

I don’t know how to do, I was thinking of doing night in Cairns and take a trip to the Great Barrier Reef days 17 and 18 with:

www.diversden.com.au or www.reefcharter.com/

And then take car and go to Kuranda spend the night and two nights after that in Cape Tribulations

My doubts are:

1.-I’ll make the trip from Cairns to the barrier or directly from Cape Tribulations?

2.- Could you give me hnts about the best places to stay (
Riverhome cottages, coralseaviews.com.au/ , cowbayhomestay.com/, or any other.

Sorry about the lenght!!!

Could you help me?

Thanks!

We visited Kuranda briefly after in the late afternoon, and it was deader than a doornail. I can't imagine that there would be much to do there in the evening.

The Daintree Rainforest is very interesting and, I think, merits some time.

You may wish to make your base in Cairns for two of the days. You can make your great barrier reef trip from Cairns one day, then the next make a day out of visiting the Tjukapai (sp?) Aboriginal Center, then doing the skyrail trip to Kuranda and back. Kuranda is very quiet in the evening so there is not really a special reason to spend the night up there (unless you are staying someplace like Cassowary House). Then take the car to make the visit to Cape Tribulation.

Stay at Southern Cross Atrium Apartments in Cairns. Very comfortable, very good location, very well priced.

That's night of 16th in Cairns, then one-night-two-day liveaboard (either Deep Sea Divers or one of the New Horizon sailing vessels for night of 17th), returning Cairns on afternoon of 18th? Won't give you a lot of daylight left after you return from liveaboard, would be inclined to spend that night in Cairns, pick up car rental early next morning and follow Saltuarius's plan for 19/20/21.

If you're taking a reef trip from Cape Tribulation (make sure its running on the day you want), you'd need to stay somewhere near there - see www.bnbnq.com.au for accommodation, so if that's the case would head up to Cape Trib on morning of 17th, and do everything mentioned by Saltuarius in reverse. Easy enough to include a stop in Kuranda whichever way you go.

dont stay overnight in kuranda
a day will do
go to the bird sanctuary if you like big tame birds- we used to love it there

good shopping in kuranda - make sure you explore thoroughly

a night in cape tribulation would do it i think- cowbay is very nice

make sure you visit port douglas too- really nice- nicer to stay than cairns
