Thanks Jill! I wrote your exact itinerary down as well as all the web sites, also the ones from a few other posters. How was the weather when you were there? Do you have a recommendation for a hotel or B&B within walking distance of every thing in Christchurch? From there I will take the tours? Can I make all the tour reservations once I get there? I fly into Christchurch from Melbourne..how far from airport?Fly home from Auckland so I will have to get an intercountry pass. Am working on the Boomerang pass for within Au...thanks so much.

I have gotten some "boomerang" pass quotes from Quantas and now I need your advice again, please...from Sydney April 1-4 or 5 (many of you said 4 days was too much in Sydney but I thought to take side trips to the Blue Mtns and have to allow for jet lag. What would be the next best place to fly to...Alice Springs to go to Ayers Rock (would like to try the camel ride) then fly from there to Cairns to go to GBR and Daintree and Kuranda etc and then back to Melbourne to fly to Christchurch. My concern is that in April there is a problem with stingers in April according to 3 guide books I have just been reading. Is it better to be at GBR the end of April and get to GBR the beginning of May and fly out of Melbourne the 15th of May. I know I have plenty of days in between but I thought I could take many of the day trips suggested on this site..I wouldnot be diving...probably snorkling one day but day trips to visit the various islands. I have not been able to get the website for AAking that some of you mentioned . I am becoming a little overwhelmed making all the arrangements solo but I feel I will get to see more of what I want to see...also, Port Douglas to stay where or Lizard Island for a day or two(can the tours be taken from there. I would like to be near a beach where it is safe to swim from the shore) Can one get to Lizard or any of the small islands to stay without taking a small plane???I appreciate all of the help even with 3 guide books a lot of the detail questions aren't answered (also, I would be in Cairns/PD around Easter...will that be a problem?? Thankyou Thank yoy for all of your help.

Hi to all: I have almost finalized my itinerary and would like any further input: Sydney 6 days(city sites, harbour tour, opera house tour &amp; opera, bondi beach, side trip to Blue mtns, zoo, bridge walk)(purchase state transit pass);bus to Melbourne and take the Indian Pacific Train to Adelaide, side trip to Kangaroo Island;train from Adelaide to Perth (was interested in all the comments regarding Perth...friends suggested this, side trips to Monkey mia &amp; exmouth;fly from Perth to Ayers rock(sounds of silence, sunrise camel ride, safari tour of desert, cattle station) Alice Springs (concerned about violence in area posted here;fly to Cairns go to Port Douglas(GBR, daintree rainforest, daytrip to Lizard,Kuranda,HB riding, atheroid , sky tram, relax one day);fly Cairn/melbourne,,day trip to winery,3-4 days tasmania, day trip to Ocean Road etc &amp; then fly to Christchurch , wanted to fly to Cook Istland or Fiji but agent gave me price of $3000. US dollars from Auckland..too costly for one wk)...Sound ok...Thanks for all the input. Johanna

Hi Joanna. Just wondering whether you have booked a hotel in Sydney yet. One that we're considering when we come is the Corus; I remember there was discussion about this place a few weeks ago, regarding location near Wynyard station, easy walk to Circular Quay and seems like quite a nice hotel. At that time when I checked the wotif site it was only $99 including buffet breakfast! Lately it has been around $110, room only, but that seems a pretty good price for the location.<BR>Julie

Thanks: I hadn't heard of Corus hotel. Do you have a web site or email address? I haven't been able to find it on this site either. I will keep looking.

Just click onto the Corus hotel listing for Sydney CBD, and it has more information about the hotel. I haven't yet tried booking anything through wotif.com, but I believe there is a small booking charge. But it seems very worthwhile when you see the regular rate for the room, no matter which hotel it is.
