Hostels in Sydney

Can anyone recommend some hotels in Sydney? I'm 25 years old traveling with a friend. I'm looking for something centeral to the city. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You

Chris

If you're after a hostel, I really don't think you could go past the Central Station YHA; it's a nice old (restored) building, directly opposite the entrance to Sydney Terminal, close to the coach terminals, a couple of blocks from Chinatown (lots of cheap eateries), and there are buses to the water nearby. It's at the opposite end of the city to Circular Quay and the Rocks, but in those expensive areas there are no hostels! Anyway, it's only a forty-minute walk... Sydney is really not a very big city!

For another interesting hostel experience, there is another youth hostel right opposite the ferry wharf at Manly. This beachside suburb is lovely at this time of year, and the half-hour ferry ride to the city is not only relaxing and a delight in itself, but it takes you right past the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge, down the entire length of Sydney Harbour, a journey which you'd probably want to make, anyway. Can't help you with the name of this one, however... maybe another YHA, but I'm not sure.

Have a great holiday!

The hostel across the road from the wharf in Manly is the 'Wharf Backpackers'.
Unsurprisingly given it's location there are a number of hostels in Manly, and hundreds in Sydney - though I think Alan has nailed it on the head with the Central YHA.

If you want some background info on sydney hostels try this linkhttp://www.bootsnall.com/hostels/aus/syd/

or on Sydney YHAs try this link
http://www.yha.com.au/hostels/search...fm?regionid=62

Other than that I would say that despite all Sydneysiders complaints, public transport here is very good and you don't have to be somewhere central to get into the city quickly

I think I mixed my metaphors there, I meant to say Alan has nailed it, or Alan has hit the nail on the head, take your pick

Hi,
do you want a hostel (as in message title) or a HOTEL as in msg text?

Re hostels: there are loads. Depends what u want. I have stayed at Sydney Central - facilities and location can't be faulted. I moved out after 2 days because it was/is expensive and went to the YHA in Glebe, a 15-20 min bus ride from the centre. It's a lot scruffier but it is much easier to connect with fellow travellers there (if that is what you want). Central is almost like a HOTEL which is why many folk find it not 'hostel like' enough.

There are some brilliant places out in the 'burbs. There is also a newish place called Wake Up almost next to Central YHA which gets great reviews.

Try: www.bugaustralia.com.au

Have fun.

Oh, my goodness!! Geez. Got it wrong. mea culpa. Didn't it occur to you to try the URL without the .au at the end,
or even google for "bugaustralia"?

We respondents aren't perfect. Help is one thing and total spoonfeeding is another.
