Forgot to mention: some difficulties can be avoided if you know the following:
Not all airlines provide daily service to PPT
The following airlines fly direct from LAX to PPT:
* AirFrance
* Air New Zeland
* Air Tahiti Nui
* AOM French Airlines (a.k.a. Air Liberte) - IS GOING BANKRUPT
* Corsair (regularly scheduled charter), owned by New Frontieres, the largent tour operator in France (www.newfrontiers.com) Will probably be the cheapest. They also fly to/from Oakland, CA (OAK).
Flew from LAX to Tahiti on Air Tahiti Nui and it was great. Leaves in the afternoon, arrives early evening. People who took the red eye on AOM and Air France were burned out and complained of never seeing a stewardess for hours.

I agree. We flew Air Tahiti Nui and they were wonderful. We were told by the people at our hotel that we had flown on the right airline as the others are the pits. Can't comment on the others personally, but they would have a hard time beating the Air Tahiti Nui flight. Our flight left LAX at approximately 1:00 p.m. That flight was included in our package from Tahiti Vacations. We booked our own flight with American from DFW to LAX. I might add that you will want to look at travel times. At first I was going to book a flight to LAX from DFW that would arrive at LAX around 11:00 a.m. their time. We ended up booking a flight that arrived at 8:00 a.m. their time and had a five hour layover as the earlier flight was $100 cheaper. We decided that we could sit around LAX as well as we could sit around home waiting to leave and it saved the four of us $400.

Hi Sarah,

We flew Corsair from LAX last May. I thought it was a great airline! I didn't mind the overnight flight b/c I went to sleep as soon as we took off and woke up in paradise! We found the food and service to be very nice. The best part: our tickets only cost $450 each!
