Last but not least Tasmania---6 days to see ? Tell me your favorites.
Flying in to Hobart (and out 6 days later) in October. Should we stay in 2 different parts of the island or stay in 1 location and drive?
Would love to stay somewhere fun----doesn't have to be in Hobart.

I spent about 6 days there myself and loved it! Did a 3 day Cradle Mountain hike (I think that was name of it), went to Hobart weekend markets, toured Cadbury factory, went to Port Arthur penal colony, went to the other main town (forgot name), visited awesome nature preserve with tasmanian devils and also with lots of kangaroos and wallabees in the open with you! Rented a car for 2 of the 6 days.

I would spend a few days in Launceston as well. The drive around the Tamar valley is beautiful. You could drive to Cradle Mountain from Launceston as well. If you like good food "Daniel Alps at Strathlynn" is a must do. Also Stillwater cafe right in Launceston. Some of the best sparkling wine comes from Tasmania and the food produce available is excellent.

How does this sound:
1 night Hobart, see Port Arthur and what other sights we can fit in, 2 nights Launceston, see Cradle Mtn and more, 1 night Freycinet Nat'l Park, last day and night Hobart before flying out.
Or should we see West coast?

If you can fly into Hobart and out of Launceston this would make your very tight itinerary a bit more doable. Freycinet is about 3 hours drive north of Hobart, so drive to Freycinet after Hobart.
Drive from there to Cradle Mountain, I think that drive is over 4 hours. Cradle Mountain is not an easy day trip from Launceston, it's about a 3 hour drive so that would be 6 hours in one day. I'd stay at Cradle Mountain not Launceston, and then have an overnight in Launceston before flying out.

Good suggestion Susan7 but we have to fly out of Hobart. I know the trip sounds hectic. Possibly I can add 1 day (night). Either way I'll trade 1 night Launceston for Cradle Mtn., and change the order around as you suggest.

If you are into good food and wine, have dinner at the "ball and chain" restaurant. Great char grill and wines. May have to queue unless you go early. Hire a car for the day and visit Huon valley and do the sky walk in the tree tops. Enjoy!
