New Zealand SI - requesting some itinerary advice
Here is my NZ Plan:
Flights:
Sydney - Wellington - Christchurch - Sydney
Oct 3 - 13
Arrive - Wellington at night
Oct 4 - in Wellington
Oct 5
Wellington - Picton - Christchurch (wanted to do the ferry/train combo as my son loves both)
So I have 6th October to 12th October to drive around...
my current plan is christchurch - Lake Tekapo - Queenstown - Te Anau - Milford - Queenstown - Christchurch...
is that feasible?

Sure, its feasible. Two of those days will involve a little more driving than you would probably prefer. Still, it is a great loop and so much of the scenery along the way is spectacular. It still might be cool and rainy in Fiordland at that time of year.

Yes, navnov, it certainly is feasible, if a bit rushed. If this is likely to be the only chance that you will get to see this part of NZ, I suggest that you try to do a loop down through the West Coast and then back up the other side of the Southern Alps.
It is do-able. Last Christmas, my son had four days to show an overseas visitor some of the South Island, and they did Christchurch-Wanaka, Wanaka-Fox Glacier, Fox Glacier-Punakaiki and Punakaiki-Christchurch (via Westport and the Lewis Pass) in that time. Sure, they didn't have much time in any one place, but they saw a lot of the scenery on offer.
You could look at something like:
6 Oct Christchurch to Punakaiki via Arthurs Pass
7 Oct Punakaiki to Fox (or Franz Josef) Glacier
8 Oct Fox Glacier to Te Anau (a fairly big day)
9 Oct Milford Sound trip - stay at Te Anau
10 Oct Te Anau to Queenstown
11 Oct Queenstown
12 Oct Queestown to Christchurch passing Lake Tekapo on the way
That would be rushed and would involve a fair bit of driving, but you would see a lot in a short space of time. Check the distances and driving times and see if that sort of itinerary is for you.

thanks kiwi_rob, ALF,
Iam based in Sydney so will get more chances to visit NZ in the future, so I guess I will stick with CHC - Queenstown via Lake Tekapo and back.
I believe there are snow landing flights from Lake Tekapo as well.. so even if I dont do the west coast glaciers, I would still have the opportunity to view the grandeur by plane...
