We just booked LAX-SYD and booked seats in row 70, going and coming back. They are at the rear of the aircraft but two seats together only, so if you are traveling in a pair, it should work out well. Yes, it's at the back, but my daughter said when she flew LAX-MEL last year, she really liked being back there - it was actually quieter and nice to only have one person next to you. Row 70 is the first row of these double seats only so preferable over say, 75? or however far back they go. Check out seatguru.com for details and their comments on actual seats.

There are generally 4 rows with only 2 seat each side of the centres aisles and we find them the best on long haul flights. Travelling as a couple it is good not have to climb over or be climbed over by a third person during the flight. There is no more legroom than any other economy seat as far as I know so I'm not sure that it is necessarily good for tall people. Avoid the back 2 rows if possible as you will be bumped around as people come & go from the toilet queue. The front 2 are good also in that they have a significant gap between the seat and the wall of the plane so you can put stuff down there instead of under your feet or out of reach in the lockers.

I had a particularly good flight in seats 71 C,D,E,F last Tuesday night. Got on the flight, had dinner and woke up as we were told we were landing in Brisbane just in time to comb my hair and brush my teeth...... only way to fly!
By the way its QANTAS - no U in it.
Also was very disappointed that STILL LA has the worst airline lounges in the entire world. In fact the whole place looked more like some third world airport than one in the US. I know that the US is not high on comfort for passangers but LA is ridiculous.

All the OneWorld lounges at TBIT are useless. If you were connecting in LAX from American Airlines flight you could have used the great Admirals lounge in terminal 4. You just have to leave the lounge about 1 hour before as the TBIT gets very busy in the evening and sometimes the security lines are long.
The Flagship and Admirals lounges in terminal 4 are operated jointly by Qantas and AA. Spacious, comfortable, internet stations, full bar, showers, etc. Unfortunately you can't get there unless you fly into LAX as you need a BP for terminal 4 in order to get through security.
I've read somewhere that all 3 airlines in TBIT will combine the little rooms into one big lounge and will be operated by all 3. That would definitaly improve the situation there.
