Sydney Hotel in Rocks area

Myself and my boyfriend are travelling to Australia soon and will be spending 2 nights in Sydney. My brother will be joining us there and we are looking for budget accommodation in the Rocks area of Sydney. My brother has organised our whole trip for us so we have offered to pay for his accommodation in Sydney - hence the reason we want something cheap!Any recommendations?Would rather a hotel than a hostel.

Eiregal, could you give us an idea of $ and when you're coming? (Everyone's idea of "cheap" will differ - but if you put a $value on it, it helps.)
You might have a look at www.wotif.com.au to get see some of what's available in the next few weeks.

That'll be tough, The Rocks has come up in the world, it's now mighty desirable. When are you going?

I'm looking at www.sydney.com.au/hotels.htm where you can search by suburb (watch out, the Rocks is under The).

The Harbor Rocks Hotel is AUD179 midweek in October, and the Rendezvous Stafford is AUD160 - both with all taxes included. Tha't cheap for that area, others are 214, 292, 315...

But do you really need to be right in The Rocks? Central Sydney is quite compact.

Considering the location, the Lord Nelson is very reasonable, but that's for you to judge - quoting the website www.lordnelson.com.au:

Tariff ranges of Aus$120.00 for share bathroom and Aus$180.00 for rooms with ensuites, include a continental breakfast. Prices are GST inclusive.

(GST is Goods and Services Tax).

Thanks everyone for those responses. It's been a few days since I have logged on and in the meantime I booked the Rendezvous Stafford Hotel. We got the penthouse apartment with views of the Harbour Bridge and Opera House. Has anyone had any experience with this hotel? Thanks again.

I booked for the Rendezvous Stafford on their website as well. I booked for an executive one bedroom with continental breakfasts for $154 USD.

They are the most reasonably price for the Rocks

This wouldn't be to everyone's taste, but the two most "budget" hotels I know in the Rocks are the Palisade (www.palisadehotel.com) at $AUD118 a double (with views of the Harbour Bridge!) and the Glenmore (http://www.glenmorehotel.com.au/1.html), which, I think, is around $AUD99.
