Cottage Country Traffic
Have not done this trip for at least four years now. Travelling from Lester Pearson up to Bracebridge, mid july on a Friday starting at about 4pm when the flight lands. What's cottage country traffic like these days ? Plus, any suggestions as to car rental agencies actually based at Toronto airport ? Many Thanks.

Andy, sorry to say, it hasn't changed , only that it keeps getting worse. But even if you did have an earlier flight, the traffic gets bad earlier and earlier all the time. We son't even mention how often there are accidents now...and that makes it 10 times worse. There always seems to be a rolled over tractor trailer. So do listen to the traffic report before leaving the airport. ...680 am every 10 minutes.
Not sure about car rental, except to say all the big players are at the airport.

Cottage Country traffic is brutal! Last summer we had friends arriving @ Pearson around 4:00 on a Friday & then heading up to the cottage to see us. Rather than fight the Friday night traffic, they stayed @ a
hotel near the airport (Sheraton Gateway @ Terminal 3). Then they headed out very early Saturday morning.
On Friday evening in mid-July, it will be extremely congested around Pearson & all the way up to Bracebridge.
Can you change your flight to arrive early Friday morning? Or, Thursday night around 7:00( on the road @ 8:00)

Everything that has been said is absolutely true. If it is not too hard on the pocket book, stay overnight on the airport strip and leave no later than 6.00 am on Saturday. Have breakfast on the way, somewhere near Bracebridge.

Hi Andy:
You've heard it all from the other posters. I live on Georgian Bay and the traffic starts rolling in there about 2pm Friday afternoon and we are almost 2 hours from the Toronto Airport. Sorry.
Here is the GTA info however on the car rentals.
Drive carefully. If you decide to travel up Friday night at least it is light until 8:30 -9 mid July.
If you decide on Saturday morning the crowds thinking the same as you leave very early too. Head up early and have breakfast in Bracebridge.
