Fireworks competition
We're thinking of going to next year's fireworks festival in Quebec. Has anyone here been to one? Any comments? I'd especially like to know when the schedule might be issued so we can start looking at flights and hotels. Thanks.

I hope you mean the same one that is held in Montreal. One in Quebec City I cannot comment on. The International Fireworks Competition held at 6 flags La Ronde theme park is beyond words. All I could say to my wife after the 30 min display was that it was unbelievable. Words can not describe it. There is a web site you can find with very little poking around. Type in International Fireworks Competition and you can find sample videos of it on the official web site. fodors does not allow people to list it here or they will pull my response as I recall. So you add thw 3 w's and the dot com to internationaldesfeuxloto-quebec I saw it from the theme parks seats and recommend that. but I guess 1/2 million gather on the bridge and elsewher to see it for free. It is awesome!

I wasn't aware that one is held in Quebec either, but perhaps this is actually in Montreal which is in the province of Quebec?
Anyway, the one in Montreal is absolutely magnificent. First time we attended, we learned of it inadvertently on our first visit to Montreal. After dinner, the maitre d' who was getting us a taxi asked our destination. When he told the taxi driver where we were headed, he somehow managed to get down blocked off streets (even convincing police officers to remove the road blocks!) to get us right to the riverside. There we were, all dressed up, sitting on the grass and depending upon those around us with ghetto blasters for the music. Afterward, it was quite the hike back to civilization!
Since then, we reserve seats at Six Flags. (There are three levels of admission - views the same from each - ammenities, wine and cheese, for example, vary.) Worth every penny for the up close and personal views! Tickets include all day admission to the amusement park. Viewing spots along the bridge and river fill up quickly early in the day. And, you can't hear the music. The fireworks are synchronized to music, which has a time delay on the radio...With seats at Six Flags, the water level fireworks are in full glory, and with those speakers all about, the music is incredible!
You can find the schedule with a web search. I'm not sure how early the new schedule will be posted, but you can get an idea of the dates from this year's schedule.
Most years, some of the dates coincide with the Montreal Jazz Festival, a bonus!
Be advised that hotels fill up quickly far in advance.

The one in Québec City is held in the Montmorency Falls Park. You can find it at www.lesgrandsfeux.com.
