Basic beach wheelchairs are available at Brackley, Cavendish and Stanhope Beach. These chairs feature wider, softer tires that easily navigate the uneven sand surface. Additionally, Stanhope Beach is also equipped with a buoyant beach chair, allowing the user to get right into the water for the full beach-day experience. These chairs are available on a first come first serve basis from June 22 to September 3. The special mobility mat surface begins at the base of the beach entrance ramp and stretches over the uneven, soft sand, giving access to the hard-packed wet sand along the water’s edge. This creates an easy path of access for wheels of all kinds.

On our recent visit in late August to PEI we visited the above trail, see web site below. If you want to know more about wind turbine energy and a close up view of the equipment this is the place to visit.

The nature walk in the beginning is not well marked on the signs. If looking at the museum a covered hut is located on the left side of the building. Start here to view the info on the trail. Walk towards the lighthouse until you come to the first road that is the beginning of the trail. Make a left and walk on the road until you see a grass pathway on your left. The grass path will take you through the forest (do not forget your bug spray) and will end at a wood boardwalk. Continue on the boardwalk to the end to the remains of “elephant rock” the path ends here. Turnaround and walk back on the boardwalk until you come to the dirt path, stay left, it will follow the beautiful coast line back to the lighthouse.

The Black Marsh Nature Trail is 5.5 kilometres return and is marked by 25 bilingual interpretive panels describing points of interest in more detail. The trail winds through a wind-blown forest, along the red capes and across a vast bog. You can walk under a giant whirring windmill, with a tower height of 80 metres and sense its great power. You will see seabirds, dragonflies and butterflies and maybe catch a glimpse of an eagle soaring. Walk slowly and look closely as you cross the bog boardwalk. There are tiny and uncommon plants in this area, including beautiful orchids and carnivorous plants. The ecology of the area is distinct and rugged, but most of all captivating. You will see Elephant Rock as it stands today and learn more about the geology that both created and destroyed this natural landmark. Check out the North Cape Lighthouse, important historically because it warned of the often-hidden rock reef. Put on your hiking boots and grab your binoculars – there is something new around every bend.

Bus Service on the island is usually limited to Charlottetown, Cornwall, Stratford and Summerside areas. But bus service from Charlottetown with St. Peters and Souris, and Charlottetown with the Montague, Cardigan and Georgetown areas has started. Another bus service connects the eastern communities of Souris and Montague. The routes will be operated by T3 Transit and cost riders $2 per trip. They will run three round trips per day, Monday to Friday. It is unknown how long these new bus routes will run so check with T3 at https://www.t3transit.ca/

"There's increased capacity at the Charlottetown Airport, and well in advance of that, a lot of the companies, ours included, are currently sold out for most of the summer already."
Nicholson says at the onset of the pandemic, the car rentalbusiness took a big hit, and companies around the world sold off much of their fleet

Paddle Board Locations on the Island.
Just a few locations on the island to paddle board.
1.Bonshaw River (West River beside Bonshaw Provincial Park) - sheltered water, beautiful scenery.
2.Fortune River - the water is slow moving and makes it easy and calm for all paddlers.
3.Morell river in Morell
4.Georgetown along the Brudenell River or Cardigan river.
5.Victoria by the Sea
6. Grand River Bay, Malpeque Bay and Bedeque Bay.
Enjoy the island.

Looking for a taxi in Charlottetown or the area? The Kari ride-booking app currently operates in the areas around Charlotttetown, Stratford and Cornwall. But Currie said he hopes to expand it into other Island communities based on service needs, as well as into New Brunswick.

Prince Edward Island National Park is a dynamic, ever-changing landscape that is defined by forces of change. The coastal ecosystems that it protects are and have always been in constant evolution. Climate change will affect the frequency and magnitude of change, including by increasing the severity and frequency of extreme weather events similar to post-tropical storm Fiona.
On September 23, 2022, Fiona’s ferocious forces left an unprecedented wake of destruction across the province. In PEI National Park, storm impacts included the falling of thousands of trees, road and beach access washouts, and the significant erosion of the park’s shoreline, including sand dunes.
