Help! Days Inn in Vancouver
My husband and I are booked to stay at the Days Inn on West Pender St. Is there anything wrong with this hotel? We're not looking for fancy, but we just got back from staying at a Comfort Inn in Edmonton that was gross, and I don't want the same experience in Vancouver. Also, we're booked at the Helm's Inn in Victoria - any reason not to stay there? Thanks for your help!

I've never been inside that hotel, but I work a few blocks away. The Days Inn on West Pender is located in the heart of the business district where all the tall (tall for Vancouver) skyscrapers are. You're also a short walk away from all the main attractions. Unless there's something about the hotel that I don't know about, the location there is great. You shouldn't have any problems.

Yes, it looks fine to me!

http://www.daysinnvancouver.com/home.html has a few pictures of the place. Even if you get there, and you don't feel happy with the place, you're a short walk from tons of other hotels, so you won't be stuck for options. But from what I've seen, the Days Inn doesn't look like a bad place to stay.

I don't know of any reason not to stay at the Helm's Inn. Even though it is an older establishment there's something about their neon sign that makes it attractive. You might want to check the rooms in the original building as compared to the newer (not new) sections. They ran a winter promotion to residents once so I assumed it can't be too bad a place to stay. It has a WONDERFUL location, right at the corner of Beacon Hill Park and very close to the museum and inner harbour. Of Victoria's older hotels this is the one I would try.

I'd be interested to hear your opinion after you've stayed there.

We didn't end up staying at either of the hotels I had mentioned in this post! I got cold feet about both of them and switched our reservations! However, the Days Inn looked really good, and the location is very central. I was sort of kicking myself when I saw it, because it looked fine. We ended up staying at the Inn at False Creek (Quality Hotel) on Howe St. It was very good, and the location was great for everything, but particularly the sea wall and Granville Island.

In Victoria, same thing. The Helm's Inn looked fine, although it is older. I wouldn't have been horrified if we'd been staying there. We ended up staying at Marketa's B&B on Superior St., which was ok.

Enjoy your trip, BC is awesome!
