Montreal lodging near Convention Center
We will be in Montreal the end of May to attend a convention. I would like suggestions on were to stay --- nice hotel, small or large, at least somewhat quiet.

Also --- are there good health clubs near the convention center with swimming pools, or could you suggest a hotel which has a pool large enough for a good swim?

Thanks for your suggestions

I will be attending a convention in September in Montreal and I too am looking for suggestions on lodging that would be convenient to the convention center, but also convenient to for doing touristy type things too (shopping, museums, etc). I will have a friend along who will not be attending the convention.
Would the Hotel Intercontinental be a good choice? What else is nearby?
If possible, I'd like to have high speed internet, but it wouldn't be deal breaker with out it.
Anyone else with suggestions on health clubs or swimming pools?

FYI - The Wyndham on Jean Mance is now a Hyatt. For the hotel facilities, just check on hotels.com and it should be sufficient. There are numerous boutique hotels in Old Montreal which is close to the convention centre, but wouldn't have the pool you are looking for. So...the big names in Montreal include Delta Centre-Ville, Sheraton Centre, Marriott Chateau Champlain, Queen Elizabeth and the InterContinental is a nice location at the edge of old montreal and close to downtown. those are all relatively close to the conv. center. boutique hotels "in the area" might include St. James, The W, St. Paul...good luck, Montreal is relatively small so everything is close, especially with the metro system and underground city (shopping malls are all connected underground..it's too cold in the winter!)

Is the Sheraton convenient to the convention center?
I'm not set on the pool; a boutique hotel could be nice too. I really like down comforters and nice towels. Do many boutique hotels have free internet access in the rooms?

The Intercontinental is a great hotel - in my view the nicest of the big chain hotels in Montreal, except maybe for the Vogue. The rooms - particularly the bathrooms - are incredibly well kept and clean. The location is good - between downtown and Old Montreal.
