Quebec City hotel choice Hotel 71 or Hotel Champlain
Which would you choose?
Hotel 71, standard room, parking $21 a day, no breakfast
Hotel Champlain, junior suite, parking $17 per day, continental breakfast buffet included
I would appreciate your opinions of my choices. The Hotel 71 is the less expensive option. We are active and fit. We enjoy history, walking, great restaurants, and shopping.
Thank you.

Not even sure where this is located but it just came up on todays offers.
I will try to locate the place we stayed - it was small and charming and not too expensive.

Merci beaucoup.
Our biggest challenge has been finding availability of a room with two beds. The cost of 71 and the Champlain are within our budget range. 71 is in Lower Town and the Champlain is in Upper.

I think if you are staying in the Upper Town you will want to walk often to the Lower Town and vice versa. It is good that you like to walk.
There are probably more good restaurants in the Lower Town but during our recent trip we actually liked having to get a little exercise after the meal to return to our B & B in the Upper Town.
The Upper Town definitely has the advantage for great views at all times of day. History options are in both parts of the city. Shopping--you have to get insights from someone else.
If you are fit it is really not an issue to walk back and forth despite the daunting name of the Escalier du Casse-Cou (Break neck staircase) up part of the hill from Lower to Upper Town. And you can take a funicular or a bus if weather is bad or you don't want to walk.
I know there are lots of good interesting breakfast places in the Upper Town but we didn't really explore the options in the Lower Town. Maybe others will have insight on how much of an issue that could be for Hotel 71. Personally I am ok with no breakfast as long as I can get coffee early and easily
The good news is either choice is probably fine.

I am putting way more energy into this decision than I should. My guess is you are right, either choice is fine.
The TA forum experts all went with Champlain. I called both hotels to discuss the room, view, etc. The Champlain front desk remembered me without looking up the reservation, told me the view was of the Chateau, and the room is on the seventh floor. The 71 had me on hold for a substantial time, took forever to find the reservation and said we would be on the second floor with a view of a museum. I went with the Champlain and I am sure I will be very happy.
Thanks for helping me choose.
