Queenie as Head of State

I am interested in what Canadians think of having Queen Liz as Head of State. Are you happy with it, don't care either way, or is there an active movement to get rid of her? Thanks!

Well babyjane,

I see how an American can pose such a rediculous question because you have all been taught in school that the British Monarchy is the world's greatest evil, but it makes no difference in any way. The queen has no power over Canadian politics. In fact, numerous statistics have shown that nations where the head of state and head of government (constitutional monarchies) have much less corruption than republics such as France, Italy and The United States. So no, I'm perfectly happy.

The majority, if not the vast majority of Canadians are relatively indifferent to the Queen. There's a small but very vocal group of Monarchists who seem to be prepared to give there lives in defense of it.

In fact after so many years of dealing with the Quebec seperatism issue most Canadians are not prepared to actively debate getting rid of the Queen. We're not in the mood for another devisive issue and frankly if there is an organized Republican movement in Canada I've never heard of it so until someopne comes up with a really attractive idea on replacing the Monarchy I don't think it's going to become a lively issue here.

All said I think the Brit's will get rid of the Monarchy fopr us and then we'll have to choose.

Can't you see that this idiot posted this not to find out our opinions, but to just make a stupid statement on "how much America is better because they got rid of the monarchy. "

Babyjane,

I am interested in what Americans think of having a bumbling idiot who cannot speak two coherent words without a teleprompter or a well rehearsed script as both head of state and head of government. Are you happy with it, ever since he was falsely elected, don't care either way about true democracy, or is there an active movement to get rid of him?

Thanks!

Gary, I don't think there is much chance of the British getting rid of the monarchy.

Millions of British people turned out to the Golden Jubilee celebrations. The queen is still very well respected here in England.

Most English people hate the idea of republics.

As a Canadian anglophile (but not a queeniephile), I must also add that the Queen is VERY good for British tourism - so why get rid of her?

As for being Canada's Head of State, we really don't much care. Personally, I take pride in our Governor General (the Queen's rep). Sadly, I think that the day that the Queen no longer appears on our currency will also be the day that our paper money will go all green - definitely not a happy prospect...

We would be so unfortunate to have the failing American economy.
