Toronto in December---B & B???

Hello all. I am considering a first time visit to Toronto in December for my birthday. Wondered if anyone here has stayed at the Toronto Downtown B & B located on Ontario Street and whether or not you would recommend. Never stayed in a B & B before and looking forward to the experience but was hoping for some opinions on TDBandB or on any that you particularly enjoyed.
Also, am I crazy for going to Canada in the Winter????
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Annie
Hi Annie!

You may want to also look into staying at the Cavendish House Bed & Breakfast, also in the center of town. The couple who runs it, Ed & Louise Bird, are very nice; it is very clean, the breakfast is very good and the prices reasonable.
http://www.bbcanada.com/2957.html

Annie, you aren't at all crazy for vacationing in Toronto during December. It will be cold and it could be snowy - but as long as you're prepared for that, you can still have a great time. There will still be plenty to see and do. (As your trip approaches, you can check the Toronto five day weather forecast at weatheroffice.ec.gc.ca)

I would be a little cautious about the location of the T.O. Downtown B&B. It is in an area of Toronto where there are some lovely little enclaves amidst neighbourhoods that are somewhat seedy.

For a good guideline on hotel locations, there is a thread called "Toronto in September" - in particular, look for the posting by "Kate" on 08/13/02.
Anne,
If I were staying in Toronto, the only place I would stay would be Toronto Downtown B&B. It's tastefully decorated, breakfasts are outstanding, and the hosts are very gracious and offer lots of help with seeing the city. Enjoy!

After discovering Toronto Downtown Bed and Brekafast on the Internet we were not sure what to expect, as they were not known to us. But even before we came to Toronto, from the little unexpected things they did, we already realized that we had come across something so rare and special. Meeting Rog and Jim there was the cherry on top. They're GREAT!! The service is by far the BEST we've ever experienced all over the world, and we have travelled a lot! There are no equals!

The only three words to describe both Toronto Downtown B&B and their service: "Simply The Best!!"

Dries and Margi, Capetown, South Africa
Saw you post on Fodors and wanted to assure you that, if you are looking for a luxury experience in Toronto in any month, that your choice of Toronto Downtown Bed and Breakfast will be perfect. You asked if anyone had stayed with us before, and we would invite you to look over our guestbook at www.TDBAB.com/kudos.htm. There you will see what people think of their experience at TDBAB, and why we are so very proud of what we offer.

You will also see, by this time, a response from a previous guest or two here, and can write to them directly for their experiences.

Toronto Downtown Bed and Breakfast, as you will read from our Accolades pages, is more than a B&B. We are a luxury boutique accommodation, offering every convenience (from complimentary cell phones to Ritz Carlton spa-quality bathrobes) and service to our guests. We have negotiated a suite of concierge services unlike any other accommodation in the city (www.TDBAB.com/package.htm) and delight in surprising our guests with details completely unexpected and always appreciated. Our breakfasts are legendary, prepared by a French-trained chef. All guests are treated like dear friends and family from the moment of booking (we send them a complimentary copy of John Must's Toronto City Guide (www.TDBAB.com/torontocityguide.htm) upon confirmation, to help plan their visit), pickup at the airport by our uniformed professional livery service, a warm welcome over a glass (or three) of wine, and throughout their visit. Again, our best recommendation is the Accolades pages, www.TDBAB.com/kudos.htm.

December, incidentally, is a beautiful month to visit Toronto. Christmas is in the air, and nothing could be more exciting. The snow (usually) doesn't hit till very late in the month or even into January (this year there was a flurry in November, then nothing till February). Our climate is considerably milder than, say Buffalo NY, just south of us. During their seven-foot snowfall experience this winter, we had nary a flake, and sent our plows south to help them out.

We are currently located in Cabbagetown, but by the time you visit, will have relocated to The Annex / Bloor-Yorkville, much closer to shops, museums, galleries and a wealth of dining choices. We will also have a larger home, with extra guest facilities, such as sauna and free guest laundry. We will be just west of the Rosedale subway station and just north of the St George subway station, yet still an easy walk to the centre of the city (it's just nice to know that you can walk anywhere and then whisk home by subway!).

And if you are planning on taking in any live theatre while you are here, our connections there are unparalleled.

Please drop us a note and let us know when we can expect you!

Kind regards,

Roger Kershaw and Jim Lingerfelt
Toronto Downtown Bed and Breakfast
Toronto's premier luxury boutique accommodation
Toll free: 1-877-950-6200
Telephone: 416-921-3533
www.tdbab.com

A hotel (or a suites hotel) is not a bed and breakfast. They are two separate experiences. Some folks prefer the anonymity of a hotel, the abililty to "let loose" without concern for neighbours. Hotels are built for that, soundproof. Children, for example, and their parents, are more comfortable in hotels. As are conventineers.

Bed and breakfasts are for a different clientelle. They want to get to know the city thru their hosts. They are prepared to "behave" like house guests. They take chances (no two B&Bs are the same!).

Don't equate the two.
