Vancouver Four Seasons

We are curretly looking for a hotel in vancouver for a few days this summer. We are considering the Four Seasons, Pan Pacific, Listel Vancouver, Hotel Vancouver, or the Sylvia hotels. Can anyone give me an idea/recommendation about these properties, locations and preferece?

Hello Wally,
From your list I would recommend in this order:
1)Four Seasons- exp. and luxurious
2)Hotel Vancouver- exp. grand dame, luxurious
3)Pan Pacific-on the harbour, luxurious
4)Sylvia-English Bay beach, quirky, moderate.
5)Listel- moderate, have not stayed there.
A.M.

Wally, we stayed at the Pan Pacific on 2 occasions: July '97 and August '98. The views are spectacular, very helpful staff and a 5 star restaurant with an unbelievable menu yet a caring & attentive staff - our 6 year old is a foodie and knows how to behave, dress up and eat in a gourmet restaurant - the hostess took special time to play with him, brought out a small gift and took him on a kitchen tour so Dad & Mom could enjoy the sunset with our wine. They also have exceptional breakfast room service. We easily walked from the Pan Pacific everywhere in Vancouver - its a safe, clean, friendly, place - we adored it and the Pan Pacific.

I live in Seattle and visit Vancouver regularly. I've stayed at the Four Seasons and the Westin Bayshore. The Westin Bayshore is the only place we stay now--definitely ask for a room overlooking the water. You can't beat the location as it's close to everything. FYI, I've heard that the Sylvia is crowded and noisy--but it's the cheapest of the hotels you mentioned.

The Sylvia is a beautiful, romantic old hotel covered in ivy and located right on the beach in the west end and close to Stanley Park. A bit far from shopping but it depends what you want. This hotel is extremely popular so I would book it now if you decide on it.

I have stayed many times at the Pan Pacific, which is on the ocean overlooking Stanley Park. It is gorgeous and very close to all shopping and gastown. Be sure to ask for a "harbourview room" or you will end up looking at the railway tracks.

The Vancouver Hotel is fabulous, located in the heart of shopping, restaurants, theatres.

Can't comment on the others, sorry!

I don't care for the Four Seasons or Pan Pacific...too corporate. THe Listel is nice (but ask for a room on the gallery floors), right on Robson so it can be noisy, but close to Denman (fun shopping/restaurants) and Stanley Park. The tired old Sylvia has a great location but is very run down; we stayed there forever but have switched to our favorites: Westin Grand, near Yaletown, the hot new part of Vancouver; Metropolitan Hotel, beautiful rooms and Diva at The Met a terrific restaurant/bar; Pacific Palisades on Robson, fun and Miami-Beach in feeling. Formerly condos so the rooms are huge. Hip restaurant/bar (Zin). Sutton Place is spacious and where all the Hollywood film crews/stars stay (there are currently 10 movies in production in Vancouver right now). Fun lobby watching. Hotel Vancouver? Just have a drink or lunch in the beautiful lobby restaurant/bar. The rooms remind me of staying at my old aunt's house! Have fun...it's my favorite West Coast city...more so than cranky old San Francisco!

PS:

The very best rates are available through Tourism Vancouver. Check out www.tourismvancouver.com. Don't book through the hotels...
