Where to go in BC for summer trip?
My husband and I are planning a week's vacation end of July/early Aug. We've already been to Banff/Jasper area before (loved it!) Last summer we also spent a day in Victoria and we wished we could have made it to Vancouver. Although I'm not that interested in spending more than a day of my vacation in a "city." We love being near the ocean, but even more, love being in the mountains. Instead of camping, we plan on using our timeshare exchange and staying in a cabin/lodge and I see they have accomodations to choose from in Vancouver/ Vancouver Island/ Whistler and Kamloops, etc.
So we'd stay in one place and then take day trips. Any suggestions on what area to stay at in BC?

One option is to stay in Whistler and then head up to Bralorne/Gold Bridge/Andersen Lake even the South Chilcotin.
It's a gorgeous area with few visitors in comparison to Whistler itself.

Hard to imagine where you're from that Vancouver and all of its appeal wouldn't prove the exception to your "no more than one day of your vactation in a 'city'" rule.
BC is 35% larger than Texas, so you should be able to find something that suits you, even if uninterested in staying in the gorgeous city that is Vancouver.
I'll tell ya one thing, though, some of those roads waaaaay up to the very north of BC are pretty darn long and remote.
Perhaps Vancouver will be unique to your travels in that the mountains are so incredibly near to a "city" at sea-level. Perhaps you could get your fill of the mountains in Whistler or surrounding areas, and then in less than 2 hours be in bustling Vancouver.

Try Wells Gray Park in BC on your way down the "Yellowhead" highway 5 considerably south of Jasper.
http://www.wellsgraypark.com/
A must see is Wells Gray Park
or if your time share is advertising Kamloops what area would that be "Sun Peaks" ?http://www.sunpeaksresort.com/summer/index.aspx
Golf in the mountains or rent bikes, swim in the pool, it is so exhilarating in the mountains
Also ATV tours, hiking tours , photo tours
The highway 5 heading south Jasper to Kamloops and then on to Vancouver has a lot of interesting stops and winds thru the mountains and some rivers.
both of these are in the mountains but on the way to Vancouver.
In the Thompson tourism region you can hit a lake a day for as long as you stay.http://www.totabc.com/trellis/general_information
Yellowhead highway infohttp://www.britishcolumbia.com/regions/towns/?townID=3951
you could even try river rafting in Valemont
I have driven the road from Jasper to Kamloops and then to Vancovuer. Lots of places to stop and look, small towns, adventure, wildlife - bear, elk, mountain goats, deer, mountains rivers, ranches, fields.
Be more specific about where you want to go or what types of things you want to see or do and we can help you out a little more
Not sure what your interests are

Thanks for all the suggestions! I definitely have some research to do! On every trip we go on, I ALWAYS go to this site first and get ideas and suggestions and I'm rarely disappointed! I have been thinking about flying in a day early to Vancouver and driving to the Whistler area and then spend the rest of the time on Vancouver Island - Nanoose Bay or Ucelet(sp?) and taking day trips from there if we want. That seems like it has the best of both worlds - mountains and ocean. But I'll have to check out the rest of the sites you all have suggested. Sometimes we make the mistake of trying to see/do too much and then you don't get to know an area well, not that you can in a week anyway...
And I've heard from several people just how beautiful Vancouver is, so you're probably right about spending more time there.

I am not sure I have ever seen Nanoose Bay listed as a tourist destination unless you have a close relative with a spare bedroom willing to put you up for free.
Try Parksville about 5 Km North with its great beaches, and kilometers long walks at low tide. Parksvile itself isn't a particularly attactive town but the beaches are something else. Try Resort Drive for hotels on the beach. Also stop at Coombs at Goats on the Roof for refreshment and Island shopping.
Many people are partial to Tofino on the West coast of the island. It also has great beaches but very different from Parksville area. Much more wild.
By the way we consider Minnesota to be, way south.

Have you checked out www.moosenetwork.com? They have great tours designed for "younger people at heart." But still, their website will show you what you can see on your own if you want to travel that way.
