Barbados or Jamaica for honeymoon

Well I have narrowed down my honeymoon to Grand Lido Negril Jamaica, Or Colony Club/Royal Pavilion Barbados. Jamaica would be great for all inclusive couples only, but we would never leave, and for 7 days we may get a little anxious. In Barbados we wouldnt go all-inclusive, so we could roam around and try different places. Both sound good to us, we are both 27, and like the advantages of each but cannot decide. They are about the same $. Any advice? I was worried about the SuperClub being too crowded? Thanks in advance.
Dustin

Hi Dustin: Sounds like your fiance is in for a great vacation whichever you chose. We are going to be in jamaica as part of a cruise this May, but have been to Barbados twice. If you like to explore on your own and rent a car ect. then Barbados would be a great choice. There is alot to see and do and there are also lots of water activities and beautiful beaches. We had no trouble driving the island and exploring on our own. There are so many different areas to go to that renting a car is great. Not sure I'd do that in Jamaica. If you decide on Barbados feel free to e-mail direct for a few suggestions.Karen

I am also trying to decide between Jamaica and Barbados for my honeymoon in June 2001. I think we will go for Barbados. I have been told that the all inclusive places in Jamaica are a bit tacky. Does anyone know if the weather will be good in June?

Dustin,
My wife and I have stayed all inclusive at Negril in Jamaica, and have been to Barbados twice. Negril is a beutiful area of Jamaica, but don't intend to leave the resort. We spent 9 days there and it started to wear on us. Barbados on the other hand is safer to travel around on your own. I have found it to be one of the more friendly islands in the Caribbean, lot's to do and to see.

Never been to Barbados, but Jamaica is one of my favorites. Negril is wonderful, and there is lots to do in town if you leave the resort. The front desk will call you a cab, and you can go into town to shop or walk along the beach and visit the different bars and restaurants. There is always a Reggae band playing somewhere, especially in the evening. Grand Lido runs a couple of group trips into town if you are more comfortable in groups. The west end is great, and the cliffs are just as fun as the beach, just a different atmosphere. Check out www.Negril.com and look at the message board, and hook up with some of the people there and they will help you with places to go and to do. We have always had a great time, and have never had a problem with people or vendors. A simple "No thanks, Mon" works well, and everyone in Negril is so laid back, not like Ocho Rios where the competition for tourists is pretty fierce. The Cruise ships dock in Ochi and the vendors have to hustle to make sales. Negril is way different. It's one of the best places to take a vacation, and Lido is faaaaaabulous. BTW: we spent our honeymoon at Sandals Negril and had the best trip of our lives. Enjoy!

Barbados is great. The people are great, the country has a 98% literacy rate (way higher than ours), and they know that tourism is their business. Everyone takes it seriously. Jamaica has too much crime. If you're going to stay in an all inclusive I guess it doesn't much matter, but why be trapped that way? Barbados is a great island, with lots to see and do. Definitely have lunch at the Atlantis hotel, and take a half day tour of the island. It's really a great place, and you can go for a stroll in town without the fear of being mugged.

Absolutely go for Barbados!!!!! I've been to both Jamaica and Barbados a few times and, while both are wonderful islands, nothing beats Barbados in terms of the combination of exquisite beaches, wonderful food, friendly locals and great nightlife. Everyone is so friendly and the Royal Pavilion is supposed to be great (I believe it is on the West Coast of the island which is fantastic. The weather in Barbados is the best I've experienced (they are outside of the hurricane ring). For food, go to The Cliff, Carambola and La Maison. For nightlife, go to the Boatyard and Harbour Lights, and during the days, it's the most wonderful place to just relax on the beach or wade in the calm blue waters! Enjoy!!!!!
