Condo accommodations

My wife and I went to Grand Cayman 6 years ago, want to return early April this year with our 2 daughters, 15 and 11, so we're thinking condo. We like 7MB, ability to eat some meals in, snorkeling, place doesn't have to be height of luxury. Any suggestions?

We are staying at the Billas of Galleon, but have also heard great things about Plantana. 2 good web sites are caymancondoservice.com and caymanvacations.com

look into Christopher Columbus. Great Snorkeling outfront. Reasonably priced as far as Grand Cayman goes. Stayed there 4 times. Would not hesitate to go back.

I highly recommend Plantana on SMB. We stayed in an oceanfront condo there the first week December 2003 and loved everything about it. Our sons are ages 14 and 17 and they want to return there on our next vacation, they really enjoyed Grand Cayman and SMB. Make sure to walk down the beach (it's not far) and rent the waverunners at the Westin, it was a blast!!

Hello, just got back from staying at the Aqua Bay Club for the 2nd time. They are very clean and well kept. Located at the quiet end of 7MB but just a short drive to shopping/restaurants. 2 bedrooms & 2 baths plus spacious kitchen. Best part is its a 5 min. walk/swim to Cemetery Reef which has some of the best snorkeling on the island. See aquabayclub.com

aha...has the beach gotten any better at AB Club. When I walked by in December, it was badly eroded.

We stayed at Discovery Point Condos over a year ago and also recommend it. Like Aqua Bay, it has a full kitchen, great pool and beach. I'm sure they are both equally nice. All units have an ocean view except the efficiencies. plus they are not quite as expensive as the condos in the middle of 7MB near the Westin. I'd recommend you rent a car but that gives you the freedom to go wherever you want beyond even 7MB.

I heard the beach at discovery point was very rocky, and as Kristen mentioned, I also heard the beach at Aquua Bay was eroded. (not as bad as some)

From what I've been told, the best beaches are in the area of the Weston hotel, condos nearby are Villas of Galleon and Plantana. If you go to www.caymanvacations.com and click on a specific property, ypu can go the the map of seven mile beach and see locations of various properties.

We've stayed at Villas of the Galleon and Casa Caribe. Villas of the Galleon is nice, a good value - just not the height of luxury. The beach is beautiful there. Casa Caribe just down the beach is definitely a step or two up the ladder. WE loved it.

Check out www.caymanvillas.com. You might try london house, it's not that expensive and the beach is great.
They have a place called caribbean paradise and it's not expensive and located in South sound, a short drive to georgetown.

my99999, what do you mean by not the height of luxury. I ask because we are going in Feb. and spending quite a bit of money each night to stay there.

I know they have no pool, which is fine by me, but I was under the impression the condos were very nice and the property lovely.

I was kind of surprised by that comment Meta. VOG was very nice, trust me. I walked by Casa Caribe which we also had considered and VOGs grounds are much nicer. They do have a pool but it's small on the street side. Can't comment on the rooms but I couldn't have asked for a nicer room than the one we got at VOG.

I was a bit nervous too before we went, but we were very happy with our choice.

We stayed at Lacovia Condos on 7 mile Beach in July 03. Good location. Nice size condos, pool, hot tub, private beach with security guard, palm trees with hammocks. WE found the kitchen allowed us to eat breakfast and lunch there then went out for dinner. (trust me, you will not be able to afford to eat out all meals on this island) The Hyatt is about 1/10 mile down the beach and the Red Sail rental is right there for the kids. Easy walk distance to grocery store, restraunts. Snorkle right off the beach. Also , we went by Plantana to see how it was as we were trying to decide between the two and it was very nice also. However you will need a car rental, it is futher out from things.

I would reccomend Treasure Island Condos. The rooms are very nice with a huge pool. There are actually three pools that you may use. There is a swim up beach bar to order drinks for mom and dad and lunch for the family. We like TI because it is a condo and has a resort atmosphere. We have stayed there many times and have looked around at other properties. The others dont have access to a resort like TI does. I think this is perfect for your teenage daughters because they can walk to the gift shop, Hooks restaurant(which is connected to the hotel), a donut shop etc. There is also a shopping plaza next door(cant remember the name). The only complaint people seem to have with TI condos is the beach. It has ironshore at the entrance to the water. Water shoes make it easier to enter. The reason we like it is the snorkeling there is VERY nice. Treasure Island is really nice for families.

I would agree that Plantana is a very nice property. We have stayed there twice (most recently at Thankgsgiving for 2 weeks). We travel with family each having our own unit. We have seen many in there and all are nice. The beach is never crowded there since the very fancy properties on either side have their own big stretch of beach with few guests. If you want to see the island you should get a car for a few days. You can walk to the supermarket from Plantana about a 15 minute walk. Go early, once it gets hot it seems longer. There are also a few restaurants and a liquor store close enough for walking. Also Plantana has some barbecue grills for your convenience.

Here's another vote for Aqua Bay (but yes, check out the beach situation first). We enjoyed our stay there and would stay there again. Nice, clean condos with friendly staffers. Have a great trip!
