Discovery Point, Villa of the Galleons, or somwhere else?

Hello, all. We are visiting Grand Cayman for the first time in December 2002. I'm immersing myself in info about the island, but some things just can't be answered unless you've been there...

I think I've narrowed my accomodations to either Discovery Point or the Villas of the Galleon. Does anyone have any inside info to help me out? Or should I be looking at another property?

Our priorities are relaxing and snorkeling. I don't mind being away from the action (we are renting a vehicle in case we want to be mobile). Oh, and my husband will require a TV and cable. All I need is a great beach,a good book, and my snorkeling gear.

Thanks for your help. Looks like there are quite a few knowledgeable people who post on this board.

Hi, Lisa!
We visited Grand Cayman in November, 2000 and stayed in a condo called Plantana. It is on a really nice stretch of 7-mile beach...sand like powder, hammocks, Weber grills, pool, full cable. They have 1 and 2 bedroom units.

Villas of the Galleon looked nice, however there isn't a pool (didn't know if that was important to you or not). The Westin hotel is it's neighbor, whereas Plantana is "2 doors" down (a very posh, private condo complex sits in between). The snorkeling is good directly out from the Westin.

Good luck in deciding and have a great time!
Toni

We just returned from our 1st trip to Grand Cayman (4/20) and we stayed at Discovery Point. WE LOVED IT!! We stayed in a 1-bedroom condo on the second floor that had been recently renovated. We enjoyed the snorkeling right off of the beach and chairs were always available at the beach or pool. They had daily maid service and extra beach towels were always available right outside the office. Can't wait to start planning our next visit.

Hi!

Discovery Point is great! We too, stayed in a second floor condo overlooking the ocean. The balcony is screened and is a very relaxing place to sit and drink coffee or whatever. In my opinion, its the best bargain on the island. The beach is not crowded on the north end.

Have Fun,

Roger & Amy

We stayed at Colonial Club and loved it! It's in a great location . Near shopping, restaurants. We had a car but didn't need it for many stores and good eating places. We were with friends. The units are big. 3 bedrooms, 3 baths. The baech is perfect out front and we looked right out over the sea. We could walk up to Royal Palms for snacks and drinks. We especially liked the big screened porch overlooking the beach. Very private. Hope this helps.

We stayed at Villas of the Galleon last December for a week and loved it. We had a two bedroom, first floor - just walk out onto the sand. There is no pool, but we didn't care - with that beautiful crystal clear blue water who cared! Beach is wide with huge casuarina trees at the edge in case you don't want sun all day. No problem with cable tv. Walking distance to grocery and restaurants. I think Villas of the Galleon is a good value. You can definitely go for more luxury at Avalon or Coralstone, but it will cost you a few hundred more per day. Email me if you have further questions.

Mindy: We leave for GC on 5/22. Staying at the Villas. Sounds like you where very happy w/ the villas. I was just wondering do they supply beach towels and an iron? I'm trying to pack light!!!! Packing for 4 is a chore! Husband & son dive equipment is more than enough . Any info on your trip would be great. Only 19 more days to go! Thanks.

Hi,
We stayed at the Villas of the Galleon June of last year. It was great. Our condo was very homey and cozy with all the amenties. When the beach is absolutely gorgeous u don't need a pool unless of course it's a priority for you. We stayed in unit 7. It was a very relaxing quiet place. We just loved it...Any questions let me know
Luisa
