Diving-Turks and Caicos??
Want to surprise husband with trip-he is avid scuba diver. He has been patiently remodeling my kitchen and he deserves a break. I snorkel but no scuba so not sure where is the best place to go. We have been to Cozumel, Bonaire, Bahamas, Grand Cayman and Little Cayman, mainly for the diving. Have also been to St. Barts, Barbados, St. Thomas, St. John, St. Martin, St. Lucia, Aruba, Curacao. Thinking about Turks and Caicos. Would Provo be better for diving than Grand Turk?? Any other suggestions? Thanks.

Turks & Caicos is famous for diving (but you probably already know that). Provo is the most populated island. Beaches AI resort offers diving and snorkeling trips as part of the AI. Most likely the location they take you to for diving would be suitable for snorkelers as well. The AI resort trips don't go out in water much deeper than 30'. We are avid snorklers and we absolutely love this place.

The dive sites that Beaches uses are the same north coast of Provo that all the local dive shops use. They are great for scuba, but I would not consider any of them to be snorkeling. The sites are all outside the reef that protects Grace Bay. The depth under the boat is in the 30-40 foot range, and the good diving is "off the wall". (I have about 200 dives at these sites).
The good snorkeling is inside Grace Bay, which is shallow. Beaches and Club Med run snorkeling trips separate from their scuba trips.
I would recommend staying somewhere you can snorkel, and he can go diving.
What time of year would you be going? Weather can make a huge difference.

Sorry I haven't been back here in a while-that darn kitchen remodel!! Thinking about early May as that's when kitchen should be done. We usually go to the Caribbean in March/April.
How is the weather for diving, etc. in May. Know Beaches was mentioned but I'm hoping to be able to rent at least a 1 bedroom place in the Grace Bay area since it looks like Provo is the island for us. Will be renting a car.
Thanks.

Just wanted to know how the diving is mid nov?? My husband's family and I are going to be staying in a house on Provo. Looking for some good diving in that time frame. We are fairly new to diving, but will have our AOW cert. by the time we are there.

Diving in Turks and Caicos is dependent on the weather, which should be good in both May and November. Just before, or just after hurricane season. And not in the winter when they can get a rare winter storm.
I usually go during hurricane season, and mostly haven't had problems.
I haven't been recently, so I don't want to recommend a dive shop. A good Grace Bay dive operation should work fine.
I usually stay and dive with Club Med, and Caicos Adventures (but they dive on the south side, not Grace Bay).
