Well, in the punta Cana area, there isn't much for you to do off-site on your own anyway, which is hwy the hotels tyr to have so many activities available. Is it not like Cancun where there are restaurants nad clubs all over the place. There are several excursions that are offered from most hotels, which many people take adavantage of. We have been to the DR three times and I cannot imagine much I would go off site for.

As said all ready there isn't anything to do in the surrounding areas in Punta Cana. Vendors will come in one night and show you there merchandise. If you are adventurous the resort I am sure will offer you a day trip to Dominican Republic where you can shop, explore history, with lunch included. It is a long day. 3 hours one way as I recall. Enjoy your trip.

The resorts are so isolated that it is easier to take tours..DO NOT RENT A CAR.. The Federalas are liable to hold you up for a bribe, the roads are bad, and if you brake down thieves will strip your car with or without you in it.lol On the serious side we have been to the D.r. nine times and absolutely love it..We were at Punta Cana twice...the last time, last year. If you want more information please write.. [email protected].

As was pointed out there is no reason to leave the resort except on an excursion. There is nothing around except other resorts. I have found security at the resorts I have visited to be very good. Did a lot of walking on the beach and never felt unsafe.
