First tropical vacation, any tips?
My husband and I are going to Puerto Rico tomorrow for a week. We've never been anywhere in the Caribbean before. Any general tips for a first timer?

Ols San Juan and forts of course, and El Yunke national park
I find nod one of the prettiest beaches is Luquillo
You must day trip to either Viesques or Culebra, gorgeous beaches that blow away the mainland

Went to PR for the first time last year with my best friend and had the time of my life. We tried to fit every 'major' thing there was to do in a week(and we were pretty successful). El Yunque is an absolute must! Try to go early as to avoid the cruise ships. We went to the Rio Camuy Caves-it was cool, but nothing too impressive. Arecibo Observatory-which is home to the worlds largest radio telescope..if you are into space or science just a little bit, I would recommend this. I will warn you, the gift shop is small and crowded, but the visitor center is full of fun facts and informational exhibits. The telescope itself is not what I expected and was so large in size. I would visit this on a return trip to PR. My absolute favorite part of the trip is when we did the sunset snorkel and bioluminescent bay tour out of La Parguera. I cannot remember who we went through, but they were so kind in getting us in last minute (our original bio bay trip in Vieques was cancelled due to environmental issues.) The bio bay in this area of PR, is rated the 'least impressive' but we had a blast. We got to snorkel at 2 locations, have dinner and drinks on the boat, then swim in the bio bay. If the bio bays are available to see you MUST do this, it was the experience of a lifetime!!! Old San Juan was a fun day trip, but I'm glad we didn't stay there. We also went on the Bacardi tour, it was fun and the grounds are beautiful, but I wouldn't struggle to make time for it if you're busy with other things. My favorite town was probably Rincon. We laid on the beach and watched surfers. Then we went to a little bar to have some drinks. It was such a laid back town. Next time I go, I will be staying in Rincon. A few other tips, get a coconut from a road side stand-so delicious! I truly loved the Empanadas, we found ourselves stopping at random road side stands getting these.. actually I am craving one right now! If you are a coffee drinker, bring some home, some of the best coffee I had is from PR. Enjoy! Let me know if you have any questions, I could go on and on, we had such a good time!!
