Harbour Island - home rentals - feedback wanted

I am looking to rent for a week in May a secluded small cottage. My choices are:
Bullen's Cottage
Land Fall Cottage
Sea House Cottage
Lavender Hill
Seafair
Half & Half
Crows Nest
Hidden Mango
Lazy Days

We are looking for a place that is secluded, maybe a little naturel swimming.
Thanks

denice, I am replying to your post in hopes that wantsomesun will see it. She is very familiar with Harbour Island and hopefully will know these properties. My own experience is mostly with Eleuthera, which you may know is the "mainland" island for HI. We stayed once on HI at the Landings, which was charming but not secluded at all - harbourfront in fact. You will find much lower prices and real seclusion on Eleuthera, and we have rented villas there several times. And yes you can swim "au naturel". However, HI is much smaller, has several oceanfront hotels sharing its three miles of beachfront, and so I think you will not really get the seclusion nor the comfortable feeling of swimming with zero others around. I'm sure the Harbour Island locals would frown upon the nude swimming idea bigtime.

Denise,

Who are you renting through? You might try Island Realty on Harbour Island, and ask for a property that would be a bit away from the crowds.

Harbour Island is very small only 3 miles long by half a mile wide, so most of the homes on island are pretty close together. Some of the homes on the southern end of the island are a bit more spread out.

I would agree if you are looking for a beautiful beach, good restaurants, some nite life and bit of shopping and water sports, stay on Harbour Island.

If you are looking for a home with no one and I mean no one around look into some of the homes on Eleuthera where you will have miles of beach all to yourselves. That said, Eleuthera is long 110 miles and the communities are very spread out so you will have to have a car to get anywhere, including to the store for supplies.

The restaurants are few and again very spread out, and not much that will be walkable, on the flip side of that everything is walkable on Harbour Island.

My best suggestion would be to decide what kind of vacation you really want, and honestly you can't go wrong with Harbour Island and Eleuthera.

Have a great time.

Denice,
Harbour Island is a wonderful place. Laid back, not crowded, with genuinely friendly locals. If you want to be slightly away from the madding crowds, then the South end of the island is ideal, especially if you want to go skinny dipping. The beaches are sublime and home to only the families of the houses there and the walkers that make it to the South end of the beach. The Landfall cottages have direct access to the beach and are set in a large, private tropical garden. Wherever you stay, you're bound to enjoy yourself.

Joan recommended Eleuthera to me years ago and we are finally getting around to it. (I hadn't heard of it then and didn't even know how to pronouce it!) I am following any thread on Fodors about Eleuthera avidly and would love to get in contact with Joan again. If you read this, Joan, email me at [email protected]. Thanks!
