Help! Airfare is so expensive from Houston!
Hi! Am planning a trip from Houston, Tx to Punta Cana or La Romana in June of 2000 for a week. I know the Dominican Republic all inclusive resorts are a great value but the airfare is outrageous. Does anyone know of an airline or package that flies from Houston to Punta Cana or La Romana that might offer a reasonable fare? All I have found so far is American Airlines and it is over US$700.
Thanks!

The reason airfare on American is so expensive from Houston is because it's not a "hub" city for them. Look at the itineraries- you probably are flying to DFW first, right?

I recommend checking to see what Continental has available out of Houston Intercontinental airport. They will probably be able to give you a much better deal! The other choice is to fly Southwest airlines to Dallas Love, and take a cab over to DFW to continue on to DR. Good Luck!!

If they can't give you a better fare, how about flying in to Dallas Love on Southwest, and taking a cab over to DFW to continue to DR? (Allow about 2.5 hours for the transfer.)

Good Luck!!

Linda, check out this site...
www.thetravel outlet.com and also imandi.com
imandi.com put me in touch with a travel agent for cheap fares and I ended up with a fare more than $100 off each ticket to Punta Cana than the other airlines fares I had been quoted.
Good luck,
Rebecca

Linda, never pay that kind of money with a travel agent, shop around. First, check out the Sunday newspaper where Consolidators advertise. They are agents that buy unsold package tickets with the regular airlines. They are not p.p. private parties or god-forgive "Charter Airline" tickets. Here in Southern Cal. you find them under the name of Cheaptickets.com or Cheap Seats. Same flights at a huge discount. If they don't fly directly to Punta Cana maybe you can fly to a hub city like Miami or San Juan, then a short flight to D.R.

You might want to check with a travel agent and have them look up MLT, Funjet or Adventure Tours. All are charters that leave out of DFW, some leave out of Austin. We have done several and have enjoyed the charters (and tried not to think about Valuejet and swamps!). Good luck.
