How to spend our day in San Juan

We arrive at 11 and have a night. What should we do?

Do we have time to go the rain forest? Should we rent a car for the day?

We are staying at La Concha.

It's only an hour or so out to El Yunque, but by the time you drop your bags off and check into the hotel, it would be pushing it to have more than 2 hours of daylight. I think the only practical way to do this is to rent a car at the airport and drive straight there, but it's not really safe to leave your bags in your car, so I just can't recommend that option. Plus, you'll have to pay to park at La Concha.

Instead, I'd focus on Old San Juan and just take a taxi.

Have you been to San Juan before?

If not you may be better off dropping your stuff at the hotel and then heading into Old San Juan. There is plenty to see and do there:
2 forts
small cathedral
several museums
several plazas
plenty of restaurants

Free trolley service to forts from near the tourist info center (close to cruise ship piers)
Segway tours of OSJ
Carriage rides

OSJ is not that big, so you can easily walk around.

If you have done OSJ before consider heading to Fajardo to see the Bio Bay there or take a evening cruise from Fajardo over to Vieques to see the Bio bay there. Just make sure the moon is good if you decide to do this http://www.visit-the-coqui.com/place...n-puerto-rico/

I would just go and see Old San Juan. In my opinion, Old San Juan is more interesting than El Yunque (but I know that many will disagree. If you're interested, I have info on San Juan restaurants and sites on my travelogue: http://www.feetontheglobe.com/trips/puertorico2008
