LaCabana or Bucuti?
Any advice to sway me one way or the other? We'll be in Aruba near the end of August and I've narrowed it down to Bucuti or LaCabana. We are a mid-20's couple (no kids) looking for a great beach but not ovecrowded. We are looking mostly for for R&R but would like to be close enough to the action, should we seek it. Have heard some negative comments about a certain "stench" near LaCabana, any truth to that? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

La Cabana is the largest (800 rooms) resort in Aruba and very much family oriented so there will be tons of kids. Bucuti is small (63) rooms) on this gorgeous huge beach and mostly all couples because there is no children's program. Contact Travel Unlimited at http://www.travelunlimited.com as they specialize in Aruba and their prices are hard to beat.

No kids? BUCUTI, without a doubt.

La Cabana is huge - 800 units, some of which are a long way from the beach. Bucuti has 70 rooms and the beach there is the best in Aruba, IMHO.

The Bucuti's pool is much smaller, but there are far fewer people using it. The pool at La Cabana tends to be dominated by kids, who are plentiful there.

As for the alleged smell, I've read the reports too, but didn't witness it myself.

Although there is no on-site casino at the Bucuti, it's a short walk to the Alhambra Casino. It's very easy to get around in Aruba - you can take a bus, taxi, or rental car to downtown or the "high-rise" area.

The beach at the Bucuti is much, much less crowded than the one at La Cabana.

We stayed at La Cabana in March and had a very nice vacation, really enjoyed having a kitchen; however, there were a lot of families with children. We were a couple and honestly would not return there because it is so family oriented. Going back to Aruba this December and staying at the Wyndham. We visited the Bucuti and the beach was very nice and quiet. Aruba is a a very small island and nothing is that far apart--we always rent a car--easy to drive around. Yes, there was a smell at La Cabana but it did not bother us that much, some people are more sensitive and it may have been worse at another period.
